The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between diet habit and health condition of elderly living in Sanyo-Onoda city.

This study sample included 120 elderly aged from 65 to 74 living in Sanyo-Onoda city who visited to undergo an annual medical examination.

We collected data on the basic social background, the numerical values measured by body composition meter, nutritional state showed using Mini Nutritional Assessment-Short Form(MNA-SF),diet habit clarified by Food Frequency Questionnaire Based on Food Groups(FFQg),and cognitive function.

The results of the FFQg showed that male subjects living in Sanyo-Onoda city significantly had insufficient total energy and protein intake compared with average values in Japan(P<0.01),while female subjects significantly took excessive salt as well as snacks, sugar, and oil-rich foods compared with average values in Japan(P<0.01).According to the MNA-SF categories, 36 out of 120 subjects resulted in malnutrition or risk of malnutrition, demonstrating that the male malnutrition group had significant low hand grip power than that of good nutrition group(P<0.01).

We should take the differences between elderly male and female on diet habit and physical condition into consideration in health promotion initiatives.

This study identified effective continuing education to enhance the nursing competence of operating room nurses. A questionnaire survey consisting of open-ended responses was administered to nurses with five or more years of experience in operating room nursing, asking about "effective education to enhance perioperative nursing competence of operating room nurses." Data analysis was conducted using quantitative text analysis with KH Coder. The open-ended responses of 324 respondents were extracted. Nine concepts were derived from the results of hierarchical cluster analysis and co-occurrence network analysis: "preceptorship and clinical department team education system," "many educational personnel," "unified and standardized education using procedure-specific procedure manuals and evaluation criteria," "education based on individual abilities," "education using procedure manuals and audiovisual materials," "reflection and evaluation after surgery," "practical education such as simulation," "opportunities to learn about perioperative nursing," and "study groups with physicians."

We report a case of mucinous carcinoma of the pancreas, a rare invasive carcinoma of the pancreas. A 69-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital due to a huge duodenal tumor. An esophagogastric duodenoscopy revealed a 10 cm tumor with surface irregularity and a high amount of mucus in the second and third portions of the duodenum. Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography(CE-US)and computed tomography(CT)showed the mass to be located in the pancreatic head, recognizable as enhanced parts of the edge and the septum. Moreover, CE-US revealed dendritic enhancement in the lesion. Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)showed low-, high-, and relatively high-intensity masses on T1- and T2-weighted images and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography(MRCP).Positron emission tomography-CT showed high fluorodeoxyglucose integration in the part of the tumor. As no metastatic lesion could be detected, a pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy was performed. A final pathological diagnosis of mucinous carcinoma was made. CE-US, MRI, and MRCP may be useful for the diagnosis of mucinous carcinoma of the pancreas.
