This paper describes a system design of a CAD processor TIPS-1 which can do the three dimensional shape design of a part and its drawing and machining. The design process adopted in this system is a so-called "Cut and Try" process which is the orthodox style used by all designers and this process is automated by computer. That is, a part shape imagined by a designer is inputted into computer and every characteristic of the shape, i. e., drawing figures, design performances and machining NC tapes etc. can be obtained by TIPS-1 processors. In this paper, the necessary conditions for such a system are discussed and the following two items are deduced;
(1) Any shape imagined arbitrarily must be described by a simple language.
(2) General processors Which can obtain every characteristic of the shape defined arbitrarily by above mentioned language must be prepared.
Corresponding item (1), TIPS-1 language has been designed based on a set theory. For item (2), an operating system including many processors for drawing, calculation and NC tape making has been designed. Design concept has been confirmed by utilization of this system.
