The amount of RNA and DNA in testes of 4-week-old cockerels was determined 3hr after the injection of chicken pituitary homogenates, FSH (NIH-FSH-S7, ovine) and LH (NIH-LH-S16, ovine) by an ultraviolet absorption method following the extraction with the method of Schmidt-Thannhauser-Schneider (1946). The amount of RNA, expressed as μg per mg of dried testicular tissue, was found to be increased by the above injections, while the amount of DNA was not changed. The results suggest that the synthesis of RNA in the testicular tissue of the immature cockerels may be stimulated by the pituitary gonadotropins.
