    In this study the constitutive relation and the extent of damage within the fracture process zone of concrete were estimated indirectly by means of a cohesive force model analysis. As the application the effect of mix proportion of concrete on crack arresting factors due to aggregates, the mechanics of fiber reinforcement and the improvement of cracking resistance in plain concrete were analyzed.

    Series of studies is described in an attempt to extract regional characteristics from seismic intensity data, being start with a conviction that an iso-seismal map contains various information from source to site if it is estimated precisely and densely. The first step, a method for smoothing randomly distributed spatial data is presented by use of the second degree surface fitting based on the least squares method. The smoothing rate can be adjusted by changing the size of a circled domain in a surface fitting. A model for numerical test of the proposed method, Hokkaido district, Japan is chosen and idealized intensity data are composed considering two factors of geometrical attenuation from an epicenter and local soil effect. The soil effects are detected and separated from the composed intensity data by applying the proposed smoothing technique and an applicability is confirmed. This method is adopted for the 4 sets of intensity data in Hokkaido surveyed by means of questionnaire method precisely and densely. Iso-seismal maps with various degree of smoothing are drawn and general trends of iso-seismals are shown. Furthermore, from the deviation of two iso-seismal maps in different degree of smoothing, local site effects are extracted quantitatively.

    Recently several studies have been carried out to reveal the important role of the phase difference distribution to determine the earthquake ground motion time history. Possible application methods of the phase difference concept for the generation of simulated earthquake motions have also been proposed. This paper investigates the relationship between the phase difference distribution and the envelope shape of time history in detail, by considering the effects of the definition region of the phase difference and the Fourier amplitude of corresponding components. The phase difference characteristics of earthquake motion time histories with zero values added at the end in various lengths and those of eighty two motions recorded at rock sites are also investigated. The correspondense between the standard deviation of phase differnces and the envelope shape of time history is improved by a proposed definition of phase differences and the introduction of weighting by the Fourier amplitude.

    For the purpose of analyzing reinforced concrete frame works, an analytical method is presented here. Until now, most analytic methods which consider bond-slip or shear deformation of beam-column joints have been 2-dimensional methods, such as the finite element method. Some researchers have made use of beam theory taking into consideration shear deformation of beam-column joints. Others have made use of finite segment method taking into consideration bond-slip. But there have been few analysis of reinforced concrete frame structures taking into consideration the continuity of steel reinforced elements among beam, column and beam-column joint. The author has reported on the analytic method using finite segment method which considers bond-slip of reinforcing bars. In this paper, we wish to report on the method that considers the shear deformation of beam-column joints and the continuity of reinforcing bars among beam, column and beam-column joint. The non-linear method discussed in this paper is the incremental method, also referred to as the initial stress method, which has developed on a basis of the stationary principle of incremental potential energy. We have analyzed a cross-shaped R/C frame construction. Our results compared favorably with experimental data on load-deflection, and strain distribution of reinforcing bars.

    This report studies the behavior of wooden hardboard webed I-beam under proportional or reverse cyclic loading. I have been investigated to the following results by the experimental study. The slippage of joint surface between web-plate and flange memberes is due to the reduction of strength and toughness, and be due to the redistribution of the bending stresses from the web to the flanges at each cross sections of I-beam. The specimens consist of two types, Type I (beam span 150cm, depth 18cm, 1980) and Type II (beam span 360cm, depth 30cm, 1982). According to this experimental result, it becomes clear that there are few characteristics on the wooden composite I-beames under revers cyclic loading : (1) REDUCED MOMENT OF INERTIA I_R is expressed the beam strength in the yield stage, that is plastic domain to failure state. (2) The phenomenon of the REDISTRIBUTION is described by concept of the SEPARATE POINT SP. When a load exceed separate point the stress redistribution takes remarkable effect and the solid type convert to the separate type. The state of separate point is indicated Fig.12, 13. (3) The relation between the damping capacity E_d which calculate by hysteresis loops under reverse cyclic loading and the residual deflection Δ_r in each cyclic hysteresis loop, have described the characteristic maps. These E_d-Δ_r maps are valuable indicator to estimate the ultimate toughness and aseismatic property of the hardboard composite webed I-beam.

    During 10 years (1976-1985), 5302 Gas pressure welded joints which sampled regarding tensile test were tested at Tohoku Institute of Technology. These test pieces were sampled accoarding to the methods based on Standard Specification for Gas Pressure Welding of Reinforcing Bars (established by Japan Pressure Welding Society) and Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS Z 3120). In the above test pieces, the kind of reinforcing bars were SD 30 and SD 35, thire nominal diameters were from D 19 to D 29. In this report, the raito of the pressure welded part failure and distribution of thire strength on the above test piecces were investigated. The investigated results obtained were as follows. 1. In Gas pressure welded joints, pressure welded part failure was exsisted. But in this time of investigation from the whole 5302 tested pieces, the failured pressure welded parts were 20 pieces which had a ratio of 0.38 %. 2. From 1976 to 1985 during recent 6 years, the distribution ratio of the pressure welded part failure was at the range from 0 to 0.33 %. It was lower than the average ratio 0.38 % of pressure welded part failures. It shows somewhat little tendency of pressure welded part failure in recent years. 3. No distinct tendency was observed between the rations of preesure welded part failure, temprature (monthly average temprature is distributed from 0.7 ℃ to 38 ℃) and amount of precipitation (monthly average precipitation is distrbuted from 22 mm to 196 mm) of Sendai city. 4. The ratio of pressure welded part failure of SD 30 and SD 35 was 0.38 % and 0.37 %, almost equal. There was no specific tendency observed between the kind of reinforcing bars and ratios of pressure welded parts failure. 5. Regarding the range of reinforcing bars diameter of D 19 to D 29, in the case of SD 30 certainly the reinforcing bars diameter is becoming large, the pressere welded parts failure was observed with high ratio. 6. In the whole 5302 tested pieces, only one piece in SD 35 falured before yield, the failure ratio was 0.02 %. There was no any failure bars before yield in SD 30. Morever, the maximum strength of the pressure welded parts failured pieces was 3659 kg/cm^2 and this cleared the JIS standard yield strength. 7. There were 3 pieces in SD 30 and 4 pieces in SD 35 among the tested pressure welded parts failure which decreased JIS standard tensile strength. Thier ratio of decrease of JIS standard tensile strength was 0.13 %. 8. The average value of the strength rising ratios after yield of the tested pressure welded parts failure, in SD 30 and SD 35 were 1.44 and 1.37, respectively. It was higher in case of SD 30 than SD 35.

    The authors had presented the results of model test for bearing capacity of nodular cylinder pile as compared with non-nodular cylinder pile. This time, we performed a full-scale test to verify results of the model test. In a full-scale test, a nodular pile and two non-nodular piles (φ300, φ450) were penetrated with a hydraulic jack into compacted sand in a large scale soil bin (6m×4m×5m). This paper discribes the results of the test. Additionally, the measured shaft capacity of nodular pile is discussed using the following three data ; 1) the experimental equation based on previous model test, 2) data of shear tests between sand and gravel, 3) data of friction tests on sand/concrete and gravel/concrete interfaces. The conclusions are summarized as follows. (1) The point bearing capacity of a nodular pile is about 70 percent of the point capacity of a non-nodular pile. This result is consistent with the model test reported in a previous paper. (2) The shaft capacity of nodular pile is about 5 times as that of a non-nodular pile. (3) The mechanism of frictional resistance of nodular pile in this test is also similar to that in the model test. (4) It is ascertained that the experimental equation for shaft capacity based on the model test is to be applied to the full-scale nodular pile, as far as it is considered that the density of soil around pile is increased by penetration of pile.

    There are two main effects of settling conductors on dynamic characteristics of towers. Mainly at lower frequencies, dynamic tension of conductors directly affects tower vibration. Near each natural frequency of the freestanding tower, the conductor plays the role of a linking spring. Some of the measurements on a system are analyzed and compared with the corresponding computed results.
