In the case where the lap splice is placed at point of maximum peak bending moment, such as an inner support of continuous slab, if the lapped length of the splice is adequately long, the strength of the splice near the center of the lapped part becomes as large as the strength of double bars, so that economical bar placing might be allowed by use of such splice. The experiments show that the lap splice having anchor length for both sides from the center of splice, in which anchor length is computed based on the yield stress of the bar and the allowable bond stress recommended by R. C, code of A. I.J., exibits nearly equal strength and rigidity to that the continuous double bars have, even though the lap splice is placed in unfavourable condition that is the splice is cast in top bar position and lateral bars are placed below. the splice.
