A questionnaire survey was carried out to investigate the men's awareness in female figures attired in Japanese clothes and the men's own use of Japanese clothes.

  Men were highly interested in female figures attired in Japanese clothes, and 95% of them felt attracted. However, it was found that they did not particularly desire women to be dressed in kimonos in their daily lives. This seemed to reflect their awareness of the present-day life style and inconvenience of a kimono style in daily activities.

  Of types of women's kimonos, an informal night-wear kimono worn for summer festivals and fireworks shows were genrally most preferred. There were some differences by generations in the types of kimonos preferred.

  The top reasons for feeling attracted in a female kimono style was “the decent and symphonic beauty”, “the beauty of the neck from the back view” and “the deft tackling of the bottom while walking in kimono-accustomed women”, in the order mentioned.

  Of men, 84% had an experience of wearing Japanese clothes, and 46% had an experience of wearing them as everyday clothes. Of these 46% men, 10% weared them because they liked Japanese clothes for no particular reasons.

  A high percentage (80%) of them considered it important to continue to foster the kimono culture.

  The clothing pressure of support panty stockings and girdles were measured by new system for measuring clothing pressure which was made by me³⁾. And the effects of these clothing on the body were studied with the changes of body demension and skin temperature. The results were as followed. The clothing pressure of support panty stockings on the leg was over 10gf/cm² which was effective for reducing body dimention. But, these hight pressure was not prefered. About 8gf/cm² gave the comfortable pressure and a little dimentional effects on the body. The effective girdle pressures on the frons of abdomen, the side of it, and the botom were 13.7g/cm², 23.2g/cm², 16.2g/cm², respectively. This girdle did not give comfortabie pressure on the body. It was recognized that the comfort and the body dimensional effect of the support type clothings were affected the changes of a few clothing pressure.

  An investigation has been made of difference of swinging properties of skirts on the dammy attached with legs and without ones.

  Rotational vibration at the angle of 60° were given on the dammy weared a skirt at 120pps (54times/min.) of walking speed. The motion hemline of 14 types of flared skirts were catched by the camera and X-Y tracker, and drawed the locus by the X-Y recorder.

  The results obtained are as follows :

  1. Significant relations are given between the swinging length, swinging width and swinging area of the short sized skirs of hemline on the dammy attached with legs and without ones.

  2. At the long sized skirts of hemline, significant relations is recognized between the swinging length with legs and without ones. No relations are given however between the swinging width and area with legs and without ones. Then, the influence of the motion of legs can not be neglected to the swinging properties.

  3. At the short sized skirts of hemline. Significant relations are given between the swinging width and area and shear rigidity G. Then, they become largely in the small order of shear rigidity G of fabrics.
