The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the mental load on the muscle activity to develop the method to which the human's stress can be measured by using the electromyogram (EMG). EMG has been usually used as an index that evaluates the kinetic load of body. The evaluation index of mental load has been electrocardiogram, blood flow, and so on. Althouth, we found EMG's feature changes when a mental load is added to the body. We set a hypothesis that a mental load effects to muscular activity because a muscle works under the nerve center. We measured EMG of single moter unit of musculus biceps brachii according to two conditions:with mental load and without mental load. The launching interval of the single moter unit action potentials and the muscle fiber conduction velocity were obtained from the analysis of the EMG. Comparing the calculation results of two kinds of mental load condition, we found the difference to be in the calculation results between conditions of two mental loads. We confirmed EMG's feature of single moter unit has the possibility as stress evaluation index.

The stress is a physiological response to the stressor from the outside, and a human state of the stress is presumed from this physiology index. Although some researches are reported as a physiology index that shows the stress, they do not satisfy method to evaluate the stress overall. There is few researches investigated about the relations between the physiology indices. In this study, we measure some physiological indices under pain stress at same time, and investigate the relations between the indices.

The goal of this study is to construct the color lighting rehabilitation device for brain function handicapped persons. To do this, we measure effects of the lighting pattern on psycho-physiological responses of the subject, seeing various color light pattern. Moreover, we consider the utility of the use of the physiological response as the communications medium for the person who was not able to do communications by the language conversation.

A vibration isolation unit with a weight support mechanism is developed for an active vibration isolation system using a parallel mechanism. The basic characteristics of the unit are measured for designing the zero-power controller. The zero-power control was achieved in the developed unit. It is experimentally shown that the unit has high stiffness against direct disturbance.

In this study, a mechanism of tactile perception of the gradual micro bump and hole without the edge-enhancement effect is considered. In this paper, the psychophysical experiment using precise plate with gradual micro bump and hole is executed. And, by considering the features of the output of mechanoreceptors, two tactile perceptional mechanisms are proposed.

A simple, rapid, simultaneous and quantitative method for evaluating nutrimental elements of the plant vigor was developed using X-ray fluorescent spectroscopy. We examined the potential of this method by comparison with an ICP method for the measurement of the nutrimental elements in the fresh tomato and rice leaves, and the good agreements were observed.

We installed a multi-sensor monitoring system with Field Server in the experimental field at Sowa Fruits Farm in Wakayama prefecture.This system is monitoring environmental factors, such as air temperature, humidity, solar radiation and soil moisture, and the images of a mandarin orange tree on real time.Wireless network connects the experimental field with the office.This office is connected to the Internet via ADSL line.We can access to the Field Server from our laboratory through VPN which was set up to in this office.In addition, we developed and installed a low-cost data logger for Field Server which does not have any data storage.As a result, even if the network is down, we do not lose data.
