The authors made a questionnaire survey about the injuries of children with intellectual disability and developmental disorder occurred in the kitchen, and how their parents took measures. The authors distributed 1,197 questionnaires to the parents of children attending all the rehabilitation centers for children and elementary schools for special needs in education in the city of Yokohama, and received 794 valid responses (66.3%). Children aged 1-4 years most frequently suffered injuries or experienced incidents. 242 of them (30.5%) got burned, and 168 (21.2%) got injured. Countermeasures taken by parents were mainly oral warnings ; the use of child safety locks and baby gates commercially available was also prevalent.
