Audiometric screening and monitoring is an essential component of hearing conservation program.
The audiometric testing, which is measured hearing levels at several frequencies of tone, is necessary to
confirm any hearing impairment. To evaluate the effects of hearing threshold levels on screening of the
noise induced hearing loss, archival analyses, including sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value,
negative predictive value and accuracy of the screening results, were conducted in total 890 audiograms
of the Japan Air Self Defense Force personnel. The results showed the hearing threshold level of 30dB
at 1,000Hz, 4,000Hz, 6,000Hz and 8,000Hz was better screening criteria than the present method.
Further review is recommended for the present screening criteria to introduce more effective hearing
conservation program.
