Ion channeling allows the determination of the location of foreign atoms. The ioninduced nuclear reaction method is profitable to detect the light elements dissolved in the heavy matrix. Here are reported some examples of the determination of the location of the light elements in a metal lattice.

The results of X-ray dif f ractometry using synchrotron radiation at NINA and DESY are introduced. In the case of small angle scattering experiments, energy dispersive diffractometry as well as focusing X-ray diffraction cameras are available. In the case of middle angle scattering experiments (2θ>1°), only energy dispersive method is successful because of the strong polarization of SOR. Intensity measurements, resolution, profile analysis method, the experiments under high pressure and studies of time dependent phenomena are described.
Several problems to be solved in future are discussed.

Ferromagnetic domains of f. c. c. cobalt fine particles prepared by gas-evaporation technique were observed by means of Lorentz electron microscopy operated at 100 to 1000kV. The observation was performed mainly with the plate-like particles below 1 μm in diameter. The following results were obtained: 1) A hexagonal plate has six magnetic domains and each domain is bounded by two 60° Néel walls. 2) A triangular plate has three domains and each domain is bounded by two 120°Néel walls. Single magnetic domain particles and the magnetic contrast for polyhedron are also discussed.
