The detailed compositional analysis was performed by combining HPLC separation with GC and FIMS analysis. Raw coal liquids contained a large amount of polyaromatics and polars, and almost of them were hydrogenated to saturats and monoaromatics after the primary upgrading. The secondary upgrading of kerosene/gas oil fraction provided coal-derived diesel fuel which were composed of dicyclic (43-44%) and tricyclic (25-31%) naphthenes, and acyclic paraffins (12-14%).
