Objective : The evaluation results of the stages of ego development were analyzed according to sex difference and age groups by using the sentence completion test(SCT)for the measurement of the ego development, which had been established and described by the 1 st report. The influences of the comprehensive clinical practice on the ego development were also assessed. Methods : The subjects were 136(male and female)students in the physical therapy department of a college of allied medical sciences. They underwent SCT before and after the comprehensive clinical practice while they were thirdyear students of the college. The subjects were divided into the adolescent group and the early adult group, and the results were analyzed in these two groups. Results and Discussion : Although there was no significant difference in any stage of the ego development before and after the comprehensive clinical practice in either group, their replies to each question item after the practice were different from those before the practice in both groups. When the changes in their replies after the practice were analyzed from the characteristics of factor 1 to 3 by the factor analysis, the practice was revealed to have been almost advantageous to the ego development as follows : they came to understand others' standpoints ; affection and conscience were molded in them ; and they came to achieve a sence of self-fulfillment.In some subjects, however, the practice was disadvantageous to the ego development ; they failed to have a sense of completion of the practice because of the lack of scholastic attanments for the student themselves, their passive attitudes, isolation, lack of confidence, unfavorable human relations with the leader of the clinical practice, and others.

The purpose of this study was to verify the factor structure model of Abarrant Behaviors in Japanese preschool children.Referring to studies on aberrant behaviors of the mentally retarded, we newly composed a 17-item check-list for measuring aberrant behaviors in preschool children. The subjects were 866 children(389 males and 477 females)who were attending 14 public nursery schools in M city, Saitama prefecture and their aberrant behaviors were evaluated by homeroom teachers.Explanatory factor analysis indicated a four-factor solution : Lethargy, Irritability/Agitation/Crying, Hyperactivity/Noncompliance, Inappropriate Speech.Furthermore, we constructed the second-order factor model, with "aberrant behavior"as second-order factor and previous stated 4 areas as first-order factor.By using confirmatory factor analysis, this second order factor model was examined. The fitness of this model was as follows, X~2/df : 4.69, GFI : 0.947, AGFI : 0.921, CN : 220.This result indicated that the model we constructed was suitable for our data.

Z-Leu-Leu-Leu-H is an exogenous neurite-outgrowth factor. In this paper, we report the isolation and identification of brain-type creatine kinase as a new target protein other than S-100β for Z-Leu-Leu-Leu-H by means of affinity chromatography using the ligand of Z-Leu-Leu-Leu.Protein purification from bovine cerebrum extract was performed by DEAE-5 PW HPLC(stepwise elution or linear gradient elution), reversed phase HPLC.The purified protein of 43 kDa was digested with trypsin and submitted to reversed phase HPLC.Amino acid sequences of obtained two peptides(12-32, 224-233)were identical with brain-type creatine kinase. The enzymatic activity was strongly inhibited by the addition of Z-Leu-Leu-Leu-H.These results suggest that the inhibition of brain-type creatine kinase may induce neurite outgrowth by Z-Leu-Leu-Leu-H.

Measurement of reaction time is one of the methods for evaluation of mental function. For clinical use, we newly developed a software running on personal computers for measurement of reaction time.We compared the software with the other current software with similar function. The features of the software are as follows ; 1.Operable on DOS-V PC machines 2.Data compatible with spreadsheet software 3.Easy operation for setting visual tasks.

"The American Journal of Occupational Therapy", "The British Journal of Occupational Therapy", "Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy"and "The Australian Occupational Therapy Journal"published in last ten year's were examined research trend on the teaching methods of occupational therapy at undergraduate level.Finding were as follows : (1)There were totally 134 studies(USA 68, England 32, Canada 20, Australia 14)on the subject.(2)Researches on the teaching method increased after 1995 in U.S.A.(3)After analyzing 30 studies of the teaching methods, they could be classified into 5 categories, 19 narraive styles, 5 true-experimental studies, 3 quasi-experimental studies, 2 questionnaires and 1 pre-experimental study.(4)The key concept has been changing from PBL(1995), CR(1996)to CL, EBL(1999)in U.S.A.England, Canada and Australia.(5)Only 11 were relatedto educational evaluations.

This study was designed to investigate unilateral sanding activities of stroke patients with hemiplegia.Data of the hemiplegic patients group(HG)was compared with the sanding activities of the control group of healthy adults(CG).Effects of the slope of the experimental sanding board, posture of subjects during sanding activities, block shapes, and block weight used in those activities were analyzed through surface electromyographic signals captured during the sanding activities. In the HG, electromyography(EMG)of the triceps brachia appeared more remarkably than those of the CG.While, the EMG of the deltoid of the CG was increased much more than in the HG.It was supposed that muscular work of the triceps brachia might practice upper-elevation of the shoulder with broad extension of the elbow in the HG.The results indicate that these activities would not be sufficient for muscle training of the deltoid of hemiplegia patients, and another physical activity should be adopted simultaneously for recovery of the neuro-muscular function of the deltoid. In the CG, keeping freedom of movement in the standing posture had a significant influence on muscle work of the deltoid.Additionally, the weight and shapes of the block used in the sanding activities influenced the muscle work of the tricept brachia.Especially use of a bar-shape block increased EMG of triceps brachia during supination of the forearm.

Occupational and physical therapists who have the responsibility to medical rehabilitation are necessary not only to learn the suitable method for operating and assistance of wheelchair using, but also to be given the educational method to be able to acquire the recognition, understanding, and empathy for the disabled. For this purpose, wheelchiar experience simulated course was set around T university campus for the wheelchiar education of undergraduated OT and PT students. The experience was both wheelchair orerating without assistance and withassistance. An analysis of results were done concerning various reaction, especially sence of fear of students. There were stronger degree of fear reaction for the experience of unassisted operation than assisted at the "slop way(down)", "ramp", "crossing of the signal", etc.We conclude that it is important to repeat wheelchair operation exercise without help for decrease of fear reaction.
