In order to studying the action mechanism of moxibustion from a viewpoint of the spontaneous movement, an experiment was attempted to ascertain whether movement dysfunctions of aged rats were able to rejuvenate by multiple moxibustion.
According to the method by Marshall (1979) measured swim performance. Female Wistar rat were used as experimental animals. Since month ago from the beginning of measurement, 15mg of moxa was divided into 6 cones and they were treated by 2 cones at right GB-25, left GB-25 and GV-20 every other week.
The swimming of rats 9 months old was compared with that of 4-month-old rats.
Swim performance in moxibustion receiving animals improved swim only in the performance “success” of 9 months old rats. It is suggested that moxibustion stimulant appears to be rejuvenated movement dysfunctions in 9 months old rats.

L-Dopa methyl ester HCl (Sigma, 100mg/Kg) injected intraperitoneally or vehicle (0.9% NaCl) were given 15 minutes before being placed in the water.
The swimming of rats 10months old was compared with that of 6 month old rats.
L-Dopa rejuvenated the swimming of 10 month-old rats more vigorously and successfully than vehicle-treated. For both measure of swim performance moxibustion receiving animals also improved movement dysfunctions as well as L-Dopa receiving.
It is suggested that moxibustions stimulant appears to be rejuvenated movement dysfunctions in 10 month-old rats.

The direction of echo sensation of each acupoint was examined on the patients who showed obvious meridian phenomenon.
The heart meridian and large intestine meridian were chosen. Echo sensation propagating both directions, i. e. afferently and efferently, was seen most often, then afferently only and efferent only followed.
The direction of echo sensation did not neccesarilycoincide with that of meridian stream.

By means of indirect sphygmomanometer called “volume compensation technique” systolic and diastolic blood pressure in finger arteries were noninvasively and continuously measured during and after the “doshi” which is the acupuncture of the carotid sinus. After 15-min resting, 2-min puncture of the right and left carotid sinus was carried out in 23 healthy subjects (8 males and 15 females, aged 18-55). Finger arterial blood pressure was measured during the rest and the in-situ puncture, and then at 30 minutes after the withdrawing. For the control the dodged puncture of the carotid sinus was also made in other 6 healthy subjects (2 males and 4 females, aged 23-55).
Decreasing in blood pressure were observed during and after the doshi in 87% of the subjects. The mean magnitude of the decrease in the systolic and diastolic pressure at 15-21 minutes after the withdrawal of the needle were 12 and 10mmHg, respectively. Pulse pressure and heart rate showed little changes during the experiment. To the control dodged puncture, the maximum change in the systolic and diastolic pressure were 3.4 and 5.0mmHg, respectively, which were within the range of the physiological blood pressure variation. These data suggests that the blood pressure response to the “doshi” may not be induced by the vagal cardiac inhibition but by the change in peripheral vascular resistance.

Studies on relationship between insulin secretion and 8 meridian points, namely St-39, Ren-12, LI-11, UB-20, UB-18, St-36, Sp-8, and Liv-3 which are extensively used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, revealed that LI-11 and UB-18 are closely related to secretion of insulin.
The twelve segmentations of Hirata, LI-11 corresponds to the 5th response zone of upper extremity region and UB-18 to the 5th response zone of truncal region, respectively. In order to investigate relationship between insulin secretion and the 5th response zone of Hirata's twelve segmentations, GB-10 of capital region, St-3 of collar region, SI-16 of facial region and Sp-6 of lower extremity region were stimulated by placing needle during oral glucose loading and insulin secretion was evaluated.
As a result, none of the meridian point locating in the 5th response zone in each region of Hirata's twelve segmentations showed positive relation to insulin secretion, except LI-11 of upper extrmity region and UB-18 of truncal region.

We analyzed 22 patients with muscle contraction headache who had been examined at the Oriental Medicine Clinic of the Second Department of Internal Medicine, Saitama Medical School.
There were more female patients than males. Most of the patients were from 31 to 45 years old. And most of the patients had suffered from the condition for one year or more. Many of the patients visited our outpatient clinic believing in the examination by Oriental medicine, after they had visited other departments such as neuro-internal medicine, etc. Of these patients, 40.9% had had underlying diseases, such as collagen diseases and intractable nervous system diseases. Anti-phlogistic analgesics, muscle relaxants and tranquilizers were prescribed as drug therapy for these patients. The drug therapy and acupuncture were markedly effective, effective or slightly effective, accounting for 77.2%.

The effect of moxibustion on warts has been known since ancient times and some modern medicalbooks contain descriptions of such treatment. The cure mechanism of moxibustion on warts is still unknown. But it is assumed that, in moxibustion treatment, the burned products of moxa which penetrate the warts are the acting agents.
Now I report two clinical cases. One case showed that moxibustion treatment and the application of burned moxa products on warts together were effective against the warts. The other showed that moxibustion treatment alone was able to cure the wart with black mole.
