On the basis of data obtained concerning the terrain under consideration has it become clear that a singular variation in mechanical property, liable to appear in the younger geology composed of the Tertiary to Quaternary formation, might have caused a sort of landslide.
On the other hand, a trial for determining the slide plane as well as stability of the slope in section has been disperted in relaton to some disperted in relaton to some analytical method.

The geology in this area consists of such soft rocks as mudstone, sadstone, tuff and many crashed zone that landslides and collapses of a precipice has happened so freguently. For the purpose of the prevention of these disasters we surveyed thoroughly the geology and selected the root of the double line.
This new line has resulted in boring of six tunnels (l=2660m, 1570m, 11355m, 3596m, 1055m and 3025m in length). It is anticipated that these tunnels pass through the swell ing rocks and strata with confined water and gar. s
The writer mentions the correlation about the geology as above mentioned with engineering works.

The Ena Tunnel is the longest road tunnel, about 8, 500m. long, in Japan, for constructing a highway through Ena Devide connecting Tokyo with Nagoya.
This paper describes the methods and its process of geological survey to select the location of this tunnel. There is also included a brief statement of the location akd its geologey, as well as the some notes on the project of Chûô-dô(Highwa).
This paper was written before the completion of the project and the data in this paper used only up to 1965. The further survey has been carried by the Japan Highway Public Corporation.
