The present review attempts to describethe research activities of OSHIKANE Laboratory, one of the laboratories in the Department of Biochemistry, Nihon University School of Dentistry, Tokyo. Having been established in 1938, it enjoys the longest history among the dental schools in Japan as a biochemical laboratory. Prof. OSHIKANE, author of the paper, is the director of the Laboratory and is known by his recent book ‘Pathological Biochemistry’ (Kyodo Medical Publishing Co., Tokyo, 1961) among many other papers in learned journals. He was chosen as a member of trustee board in 1951, the first delegate from the realm of dentistry, for the Japanese Biochemical Society which is the only authoritative body composed of all the biochemists throughout the country.
