    JOURNAL RESTRICTED ACCESS

RA21 is one of the focused projects of Science, Technology & Medicine Publishing Association (hereinafter “STM”)and SCHOLIX is also one of the projects which STM has joined. RA21 (Resource Access for the 21st Century) aims at creating an access environment for scholarly resources with good ease of use “From Anywhere, On Any Device”. In other words, regardless of whether the user is accessing from within an organization's network or from outside of it, he/she will be given seamless, convenient access to scholarly content, while still preserving user privacy, with not only a desk-top PC but also any mobile device. STM has taken an initiative for RA21 to recommend new solutions for access strategies beyond IP recognition in joint collaboration with software venders, libraries, federation operators, publishers and service providers based upon the feedback of the RA21 User Experience Challenge, which has been well accepted by the Challenge participants. As of April, 2019, the NISO Recommended Practice for Improved Access to Institutionally-Provided information Resources is available for public comment. SCHOLIX stands for a framework for SCHOlarly LInk eXchange as initiated in the leadership of RDA (Research Data Alliance) under ICSU-WDS. It is the consensus achieved by a number of organizations i.e., journal publishers, data centers, and global service providers (bibliometrics). Its objective is creating an open global information ecosystem for the links between data and literature, and the framework includes policies and practical guidelines to be agreed on by the initiative members. STM has joined the initiative, implementing one of its Open Science strategic objectives.

    JOURNAL FREE ACCESS

This article introduces Kopernio, a free browser plug-in that finds the best available full-text PDFs with one click. Kopernio is integrated with over 20,000 academic websites such as Web of Science, Google Scholar, PubMed, and publisher sites. The rise of electric journals has brought piracy issues to scholarly communication. Researchers struggle with the inconvenience of multiple logins and endless redirects when accessing full texts, which leads them to download paywalled full texts at Sci-Hub to avoid the effort. Kopernio addresses this situation and saves researchers valuable time in resolving research problems.
