JOURNAL FREE ACCESSIn order to improve the quality of geriatric care, a certification examination for Certified Geriatric Pharmacists (CGPs) was introduced in the United States in 1997. Today, there are 1, 310 CGPs. Starting from 2006, one can easily sit for this exam using a computer testing method that is available through centers in 20 different countries. In order to ensure the competence of CGPs, certification must be renewed every five years. In fact, certification should not be the only goal. JOURNAL FREE ACCESSThe 6-year pharmacy education system has been put into practice as of April this year and this reform of the education system seems to prompt more pharmacists to pursue their interest in the continuing education than ever. The continuing education of pharmacists is essential to maintain their professional competency because of the continuous introduction of new therapeutic and diagnostic agents. However, the current situation in Japan is still far from desirable. It is hoped that e-Learning will play an important role to support and to promote the continuing education of pharmacists because of its convenient accessibility. The purposes of this project are to improve the library service and support research activities through the accumulated information.
