In order to improve the quality of geriatric care, a certification examination for Certified Geriatric Pharmacists (CGPs) was introduced in the United States in 1997. Today, there are 1, 310 CGPs. Starting from 2006, one can easily sit for this exam using a computer testing method that is available through centers in 20 different countries. In order to ensure the competence of CGPs, certification must be renewed every five years. In fact, certification should not be the only goal. One should remember that continuous learning and challenging oneself in patient care every day are the foci.
