The Museum of Materia Medica of Toyama Medical and Pharmaceutical University, founded in 1983, has an area of 395 m
2 and displays crude drugs (16, 000 samples indexed and 9, 000 samples in the process of being indexed), a herbarium (30, 000 samples indexed and 36, 000 samples in the process of being indexed) and other pharmaceutical preparations of crude drugs and materials of local medicine dealerships (200 samples). The most numerous materials collected are Chinese crude drugs used in Chinese traditional medicine, followed by Indian crude drugs used in Ayurveda. In addition, crude drugs used in the traditional medicines of Tibet, Indonesia (Jamu), Thailand, Mongolia and Arabic countries (Unani medicine), as well as folk medicines used in Asia and South America are also exhibited, giving the museum significant educational, scientific and historical value.
