This article explains the purpose of the revision of the Guidelines for Writers. The purpose of this article is twofold: first, to provide information that will help authors better understand the purpose of the revision and make the best use of the revised guidelines in writing papers. The second is mainly for reviewers to understand the awareness of the issues involved in the revision, and to help understand the key points of the review according to the types of JSiSE papers so that there will be no discrepancies in understanding among authors, reviewers, and the editorial board. The main point of this revision at the macro level is to clarify the relationship between the two types of JSiSE papers, general papers and practical papers, and especially to clarify the concept of treating both types of papers on an equal footing. This paper first summarizes the awareness of the issues that led to this revision and explains the basic philosophy of the revision. Then, the specific content and purpose of the revision will be explained. The review format has also been revised to reflect the revision of the Guidelines for Writers, which is explained to help authors write their papers and to help reviewers understand the intention of the revision of the review format.

In recent years, there has been an increasing demand for resource-sharing approaches to address increasingly complex social issues that are difficult for specific specialists to solve on their own. In order to solve these issues, new systems must be created and continuously improved based on mutual understanding and cooperation among various stakeholders. This paper introduces an approach aimed at building a System of Systems that amplifies educational effects and promotes “new intrinsic development” of communities. As a case study, this paper introduces the construction and implementation of a system that supports the formation of regional identity, which is the foundation for regional revitalization. This study develops a communication media that integrates data generated from various regional systems, including educational systems, and constructs a System of Systems. This paper describes an educational/regional revitalization program that promotes the use of this media and the effects of its implementation.

This research proposes a learning method about the subject of sharing economy business model for university students. Sharing economy has emerged with the spread of information technology such as social media and smartphones. It is expected to be an beneficial learning subject to understand today’s IT-oriented business models. However, it would be difficult for university students without industry experience to understand the abstract concept of business model. To support the understanding of the subject, this research applies a learning method based on Merrill’s first principles of instruction, in which the learners extract the concept of business model from particular company examples in abstraction phase, then they apply the concept to another example in re-concretization phase. Experimental results indicate that the learners who identified the key concept of the business model in abstraction phase were successful to apply the concept in re-concretization phase.

First-year spring semester grades are an important factor in whether or not a student will graduate within the standard academic year. It has been mentioned that the GPA in the spring semester of the first year is related to variables known before admission, placement tests, absence rate, etc. However, it is late in the process of determining grades and it is difficult to determine which students should be intervened upon and how many students should be intervened upon because the status of students within the semester is unknown. There have been few studies to clarify how many students and how their status transitions during the spring semester of the first year. In this study, we propose a method to predict how students' GPA changes week by week during the semester, capture it as a time series vector, and use the transition results of the predicted GPA to classify students. By identifying the differences between the typed groups, we can clarify how much and from which times students decline during the semester, and where and when interventions should be made.
