The equation of the loss of heat from a piping laid in the ground, and the equation of the temperature drop of water in a hot water piping are given with experimental results of a hot water piping about 1400 meters long. It is explained that the loss of heat from a hot piping will be sometimes increased by laying it in the ground. At the end of the paper it is shown that by a hot water piping the discharging temperature will be raised by mixing cooler water at the beginning, if its temperature is higher than a limit which is always lower than the initial discharging temperature.

1. Izod impact test was made on cold-rolled plates of copper, bronze and brasses. The impact value was found to be largest in test-pieces taken parallel to the direction of rolling and smallest in those taken in perpendicular to it, (notch was cut in right angles to the direction of rolling, and, in the former ones, on the surface of the plate, while, in the latter, on its cross-section). The difference in mechanical properties with the direction of the plates was also found by tension and compression tests, 2. A similar test was made on the test-pieces taken from a 70/30 brass plate after annealing at various temperatures. It was confirmed that no difference in the impact value with the direction of the plate was noticeable after annealing at temperatures higher than 600℃ (Fig.3). 3. Using a Charpy machine, impact test was made on brass (Zn=31%) phosphor-bronze (Sn=3%) and aluminium-bronze (Al=7%) at high temperatures. The impact value of aluminium-bronze begins to fall very rapidly from 200℃, and, after passing a minimum at 500℃, reaches a pronounced maximum at 700℃. The tonghness of brass and phosphor-bronze decreases very rapidly from 200°and 350℃ respectively, and is very small at higher temperature range as compared with that of aluminium-bronze (Fig.8). The results of static tension test was also considered in this connection (Figs.9-11).
