The critical points of pure iron and pure carbon steels were studied by utilizing dilatometric, differential dilatometric methods and magnetic analysis with different rates of heating and cooling. The degree of superheating and supercooling of the critical points corresponding to the different rates was determined. From the points thus obtained, the critical points in the equilibrium condition were deduced and the equilibrium diagram of the iron-cementite system was constructed.
