The development of lnokuty's centrifugal pump is described. Statistically, and then, a brief explanation is given about the different kinds of pumps- from centrifugal to axial flow one according to their specific speed together with some results of the experiments, such as-the determination of the best form of the cross section of spiral casings, the influence of mechanical losses upon small pumps, and flow of water in the delivery pipe of axial flow pump.

This paper proposes a somewhat new method for determination of the chief dimensions of an axial flow water turbine of propeller type, except the runner itself, which is to be designed under a given condition. Its characteristic features are : (1) the introduction of an index number λ which represents the characteristics of the guide apparatus into the ordinary design formulae, (2) provision of diagrams which may enable turbine designers to select some numerical coefficients with special reference to the cavitation phenomena and the hydraulic efficiency of the runner. Several equations, given in this paper, show the relations between the index number λ, above mentioned, the specific speed coefficient σ, the axial velocity coefficient k_〓, the cavitation index μand the hydraulic efficiency of the runner ηR respectively. These equations will be of some use for a designer when he wishes to design a new propeller turbine of this type. At the end of this paper, a few experimental results regarding to the character of the index λ and a numerical example of a turbine design referring to this method are also given.

This paper reports the result of measuring the pressures and velocities of the flow of water in a pipe bend which is curved at right angle in a horizontal plane. As the preliminary experiment, the motion of coloured water stream lines in a glass bend pipe had been observed. The glass pipe experiment shows that every coloured stream line above the horizontal plane through the pipe centre forms a helix entirely confined into the upper half of the pipe, and the similar motion occurs in the lower half. In the begining part of the curved pipe the velocity decreases towards the outer side of the bend, while the pressure increases. Both the velocity and pressure curves turn into similar singular forms in the last part of the bend. Some qualitative considerations were made on the experimental results.
