One dog with apocrine adenocarcinoma of the distal digits and one with squamous cell carcinoma of the hind limb nail bed underwent disarticulation of the carpal or tarsal joints, followed by prosthetic fitting. Contrary to several reports of prosthetic limb complications, the two presented cases experienced only minor, well-tolerated complications. In cases where complete limb amputation is currently indicated, partial limb amputation and prosthetic limb fitting may be a viable alternative, allowing tumor treatment while maintaining a high quality of life (QOL). However, further studies are required to establish the indications, surgical techniques, prosthetic design, and other aspects of the procedure.

症例は3歳齢、去勢雄の日本猫で、巨大な腎芽細胞腫が右腎に認められた。8Gyのオルソボルテージ放射線照射を週に1回4週行い、縮小がみられた後、外科的に切除した。その後3週間ごとにミトキサントロン6 mg/m²を5回投与した。症例は完全寛解が得られ、初診より3年経過後も生存し、再発や転移もみられていない。切除が難しいと思われる巨大な腎芽細胞腫でも術前放射線治療によく反応し、良好な結果が得られた。
