    Effects of Innovation are to be measured by increases of Total Factor Productivities (TFP) . Has Japan succeeded to raise its TFP during the lost 2 decades?
    Unfortunately, Japan’s current “Lost 2 Decades” have been the results of what we have been continuously missing it. We at Japan are in the midst of maturing economy, while Asian emerging economies, our nearest neighbors, have shown very strong growths for more than a decade. To raise our TFP, i.e. to achieve the enhancement of innovations is indispensable to take advantage of the growths of Asian emerging economies.
    To enhance overall innovations is nothing but “Carrying Out of Various New Combinations rather than the introduction of new products”. Enhancement of innovation does mean to increase values added to meet users’ needs and wants through New Combinations. New Combinations of secondary and tertiary industry could create and deliver new values to both emerging and domestic markets. The following papers attempt to challenge to it and to indicate us a new concept “The Fusion Create New Values”

    Over the last 16 years the New Industries Research Group of the Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA) has been bringing together technological experts from different companies for researching and conceiving on advanced technology-using business / service.
    This paper presents the results of their collaboration beyond organizations boundaries and the effect to present state of technology and businesses through authors’ reflection on their own activities. The paper also shows some discussions and insights for technological experts’ collaboration from a perspective of MOT (management of technology) approaches.

  • — Role of Specialized Trading Company as a Mediator —

    This paper proposes a mediator architecture in which a new type of coordinator could collaborate in business. The main feature of the mediator is different from the matching type of conventional coordinator. The proposed case study indicates that specialized trading companies in Japan play a role model in real society, manifested as a mediator. The business creation function of a Japanese specialized trading company is the growth engine of SMEs for the realization of new business.

    The subject (enterprise, group, individual, and government, etc.) related to the business and the roles (investment, development, production, and sales, etc.) are diversified by making the industry fusion according to the market change (environment, resources, manufacturing, and service).
    The consortium (business community) catches each subject from a high dimension as a business element to develop the business and the subject to a new environment. And, it is the one to manage elements of the inside, the outside, the risk, the profit, and the commercial distribution, etc. in the business structure, and to attempt the total optimization.

    I have studied “engineering brands” for the last 10 years. Those companies, which successfully establish their engineering brands, have delivered good business results even during the depression period. That is because “engineering brands” serve as power and create innovation business.
    This paper reports how the existence of hospitality, secondary and tertiary industries complete fusion business in the process of building “engineering brands.” When business is built through foreseeing from the upper to lower streams in the society, values for the society would arise.
    Hospitality between a seller and buyer beyond business outcomes is important to make it happen. Sharing a dream and close, collaborative relationships would create innovation business contributing the society.

    The 6th industrialization is the measures of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) to promote an activation of 1st industry (agriculture) by using the technique of 2nd industry (manufacturing industry) and 3rd industry (service industry). The purpose of this paper is to describe that Satsuma Domain got the immense source of revenue by “the 6th industrialization of brown sugar”, which brought about the Meiji Restoration. Satsuma’s experiences help us as a reference in considering a 6th industrialization of the present Japan’s agriculture.
    Although terms and conditions differ from the Edo period, considering the result which brown sugar industry brought about, the meaning to know the “6th industrialization” is significant. Satsuma Domain was able to win the Anglo-Satsuma War which stemmed from the Namamugi Incident, and was able to avoid a possible colonization by the Great Britain. The military power by the immense profits from brown sugar realized it.

    The Japanese consumers have much concern with food. Japanese government has participated in negotiation meeting of TPP (Trans Pacific Partnership) and promoted to strengthen the 1st industry with the six industrialization strategy. The six industry means the 1st industry (agriculture) plus the 2nd industry (manufacturing) plus 3rd industry (sales).
    This paper surveys recent activities of the 6th industry and case studies of typical 6th industry firms in Kanto districts. Author also reports actual experience in the vegetable plant and future possibility of the 6th industry.

    They say that the year 2012 was the first year of the Big data. Now the big data is the most exciting hot issue that may be expected to change dramatically the world economy and our living life.
    This paper focuses on the industrial application of big data. The author names and defines the industrial big data that is big and little digital data gathered from the machines or systems and operator’s information installed in home, factory,office and social infrastructures to central supervisory computer systems via various intelligent sensors and communication network.
    The industrial applications of big data works on M2M (Machine to Machine) and M2P (Machine to Person) systems essentially and come to bring the realization by various new technology as follows, cloud computer, low price super computer ,big data analysis software, intelligent sensors, global network and data scientist activity.
    The ages of “the Third Industrial Revolution” will come not so far by developing the application of industrial big data.

    Globalization is defined as the shift toward a more integrated and interdependent world economy. And more specifically, there are two types of globalization, that is to say, the globalization of markets and the globalization of production. These two types of globalization can accelerate the commoditization of various products through the convergence of customer needs, the standardization and modularization of product components, and the escalated competition between multinational companies.
    This paper explains how and why the Japanese companies are struggling in the global commoditized market, and discuss what should be expected for the Japanese business persons as well as for the Technology Management education programs.
