In Japan, the number of children who receive the special educational supports is increasing. These children need reasonable accommodation not only in their special resource classes, but also in their regular classes with others in ordinal municipal elementary schools. In this study, the authors examined the classroom layout for the reasonable accommodation in the regular classes based on the data of 394 parents whose children occasionally participated in the special resource classes for special supports. As results, the followings were found. 1. According to the parents’ reports, the concentration rate of the children who need and actually have a cooling-down space is significantly higher than the children who need but don’t have it. 2. Parents’ selection of the seat position which may help their children’s concentration may differ according to the kind of difficulties the children have. The authors argue that having a cooling-down space is effective for children’s concentration, and the appropriate seat positioning according to their difficulties may also be effective.
