When dealing with customizable products, the effective management of bill of materials data should be considered. Though the BOM (Bill of Materials) is a master data consisting of part list and product structure for production management, there is a problem when product structure data rapidly expands to incorporate the variety of customizable products. One solution has been to use additional software functionality on BOMP (Bill of Material Processor) that allows for optional parts, but this does not solve the fundamental problem if continuing to use BOM. This paper evaluates BOM and a way of using master data management called FBOM (Fundamental Bill of Manufacturing) that can solve the customizable product problem, and examines the possibilities of managing the increasing variety of products. As a result, we explain the necessity of calculating estimates that consider the variety of products, and then demonstrate a simple calculation procedure that shows the number of items and product structure. We also describe the effectiveness of FBOM through a comparative example.

This study is based on relational view that examines companies’ performance by inter-business relationships. The authors make a hypothesis that a distributor forms trust between companies in a short period and produces relational rents by creating more-than-expected relation-specific resources between companies. Additionally, this paper considers the required capability of a distributor that produce relational rents, and examines the type of trust that is formed between companies by a distributor.

In this research, we describe the suggestion of the object-oriented RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) and its applications to improve both the effectivity and the flexibility in the control and management of the information system in the manufacturing system. The OORFID suggested in this research is the object that does not only have unique IDs or data, but also has the methods to processing these data like the object in the object oriented concept. Realizing this system, we provide one solution using the object oriented features such as the inheritance mechanism, the encapsulation and the polymorphism mechanism. For the verification of this solution, we design and develop the simulation system of an assembly line of BTO personal computers. In this system, we actually implement this solution using the java programming language which provides to pack the java applet into the OORFID.

In this paper, we treat a multi-item single-process unrelated multi-machine dynamic lot size scheduling (MISPUMMDLS) model. The MISPUMMDLS model can be defined as a subset of a multi-item multi-process dynamic lot size scheduling (MIMPDLS) model. The MISPUMMDLS model is very important model in the sense that, MIMPDLS model is often solved in a manner in which, for each process, the process is subordinated to the succeeding process, in order to shorten the computation time if it is on a large scale. The above process is equivalent, in that we apply MISPUMMDLS model for each process and begin by solving every process from the last process. Accordingly visualization and check the obtained schedule by MISPUMMDLS model is also very important. Then, we developed a visualization program of production schedule for multi platform in at least Windows OS, Mac OS and Linux OS by MISPUMMDLS model. As a result, we became able to check the obtained schedule easily by MISPUMMLDS model through operation time reduction.

This paper discusses and describes the education of Production/Operations Management in the university. What kind of material is needed as an introduction to the field of production and operations management. Is it suitable for undergraduate students? The subject matter is somewhat technical in parts. The author of this paper has been teaching Production and Operations Management (POM) for almost 40 years to 2nd and 3rd year college students at the department of management engineering. This paper reports the main and important theme of POM under globalization and high information-oriented age.
