We have proposed a diagnostic device using ultrasonic for noninvasive and quantitative diagnosis of osteoarthritis of the knee. However, problems remain in the reproducibility of measuring the characteristics of articular cartilage. In this study, in order to establish a method to measure the characteristics of articular cartilage accurately, five kinds of calculation methods were proposed, and the acoustic parameters of the skin sample and the articular cartilage sample were estimated. Through comparison was made by estimating the acoustic parameters of the measurement object, the factors to achieve more precision measurement were investigated. As a result, the calculation method with the smallest difference from the measured value was Type 4. The error of Type 4 from the measured value was 2.03%. Because this calculation method used both echoes reflected from water, the highly reproducible measurement data, and the skin sample as references, the estimation accuracy of the degeneration of the measurement object has been improved.
