In order to explain the well-known peculiar character of liquid helium an assumption in proposed that as the temperature is raised from 0°K atoms are excited by thermal agitation to from “molecules” (terminology first introduced by Tisza
(1)) of about eight atoms each. Bose statistice is then applied to the system of atoms and molecules. The thermodynomical properties, thermo-mechanical effect, the so-called second sound, viscosity etc. are quantitatively discussed, giving microscopic interpretation of there phenomena on the line proposed phenomenologically by Tisza.
