A sample of Iron Telluride FeTe was prepared by sintering method and the magnetic susceptibility was measurel for this salt in the temperature range from liquid air to 1050°C.
Since it was scarcely possible to avoid the effect of oxygen which had been adsorped by the powdered materials in the course of sampling, the observed of X-T relation were found usually to be similar as that of magnetite.
A little amount of Mn was added as deoxydizer when the sample was sintered. And, we could find the antiferromagnetic characters of this salt. The susceptibility of FeTe, in the region below 570°C, should be shown as following,
X=C/T+θ, where C=0.92, θ=220°K
The number of effective Bohr magneton was also computed;
P
eff=2.72
In this case, the total spin quantum number, S was expected to be S=1. from considering the value of Peff.
As Neel point was not observed in the temperature range of our measurement, perhaps it should be lower than -190°C.
