Calculations are presented as to the amount of displacement atoms produced by the irradiation of charged massive high energy particles, the mean free path of the displacement collision and the energy distribution of recoiled atoms, which are given respectively by egs. (28). (24) and (30).The values for Al. Cu. and Ge irradiated by an α-particle are shown in Table II.
The previous theory of Seity on these problems has been treated assuming the conservation of energy and momentum in the collision between the charged particle and the nucleus and using the Born approximation, which is unlikely in this case of large momentum transfer. In this theory the momentum transfer is calculated in a satisfactory classical fashion with the ase of the method of impact parameter but not treated in the region of low energy where the stopping formula (3) is not valid.
