A Complete film fixing and washing has an important role to prevent the film discoloration on intraoral film processing. Instant dental film processing (alternated mono-bath processing) and semi-automatic film processing have been widely employed in Japan. And, sometimes, many dentists tend to neglect the completion of film washing.
The purpose of this study is to determine the time for a complete removal of processing chemicals and to prevent a discoloration of intraoral radiograph.
Methods employed in our experiments were as follows: (1) Residual thiosulphate test. (2) Residual silver test. (3) Measurement of clearing time. (4) Observation on discoloration of intraoral radiographs at two years and five years after processing.
Authors discussed some problem on the processing and safekeeping of intraoral dental film.
    Results:
    (1) Discoloration did not arise in intraoral radiographs at five years after processing carried out in running water over five minutes.
    (2) Kodak ultra-speed dental radiographic film required over ten minutes washing running water.
    (3) Among the dental radiographic films stored in our clinic, the discoloration was found in 20% of films at five years after processing. No particular change was recognized in the films after two years washing in running water.

It has been known that hyperthyroidism is influential to the skeletal bones, but there are few description on osseous changes in the jaw bones. Two cases of hyperthyroidism were presented in this study.
The first case was a 23-year-old woman. Her symptoms were nervousness, exophthalmos, and enlargement of the thyroid gland of 5 years' duration. Laboratory studies disclosed an elevation of ALP (12 K-A units), but other data were within normal limits. Thyroidal uptake of 123I showed 84.4% for 3 hours, 91.8% for 6 hours, and 95.9% for 24 hours. Thyroidal scintigram revealed a diffuse concentration of 131I.
The second case was a 35-year-old man. His symptoms were easy fatigue, palpitation, nervousness, and enlargement of the thyroid gland. Levels of ALP was elevated to 36 K-A units, but other laboratory data were within normal limits.
Coarse cortex bone, osteoporotic pattern of trabeculation, and discontinued lamina dura were disclosed in both cases of jaw bones roentgenologically. In the second case, osteitis fibrosa and osteoporosis were seen in the mandibular alveolar bone pathologically.
