The external wall of 3 buildings of Kobe Gakuin University, Port Island campus, which have been completed this March, is constructed by the brick masonry cavity wall system of an unprecedented scale with an area of 20 thousand square meters, assembled approximately 1.27 million foreign-made bricks. This paper describes the outline of the wall system, its design flow, and the experiments conducted to examine the validity of the design methods and the component specifications. To evaluate the seismic performance, relative story displacement tests and static horizontal loading tests have been carried out on a full-scale model. Results showed that the wall system satisfied the required performance and was safe for the short-term external load.

Shirasu is a kind of pyroclastic flow deposits and the huge volume of it accumulates in the southern part of Kyushu. Further investigation will be needed to develop a new technology for useful application of shirasu more extensively. In the present study that targeted concrete secondary products, we have examined material properties (mix proportion, strength and long term property and so on) of shirasu mortars with white cement. As a result, the compressive strength versus cement-water ratio relationship of white cement shirasu mortars was linear like a normal concrete. The sand-cement ratio had little influence on the compressive strength of white cement shirasu mortar.

We have developed a humidity self control material using zeolitic tuff mined at Kawanishi district in Fukui prefecture. Zeolite has a long history for ion exchangers, adsorbents, moleculer sieves and catalysts. In our experiments, the zeolitic tuff was ground and used as a pozzolan for a synthesis of C-S-H. The result shows a higher value of adsorbed water and IV-type (IUPAC) in the adsorption ⁄ desorption patterns; in contrast, those of zeolitic tuff are classified as I-type. We report the water vapor adsorption ⁄ desorption property of a coating material for textured finishes using synthesized C-S-H made from zeolitic tuff.

This report examined the sorption performance of a sorption material and relations of the indoor humidity condition. We think about a coefficient of sorption α as the sorption property of a sorption material constructed to inside of wall in a real room. With this α, we considered an equation of estimation of humidity in a room when the air was flowed into the room that was constructed a sorption material. When become the steady state, α is in proportion to the ratio with ventilation number n and loading factor L; is related. When loading factor L increases in number by the relations with L and α, α decreases exponentially. In other words it means that the effect of sorption performance do not change in the above to some extent even if execution areas of work are increased. This evaluation method shows that the humidity control in a real room can be estimated if n⁄L is equal to the condition of test.

Because I touch the outside directly, as for the building finishing materials, it is often that the flying and falling object collides and produces crazing or a miss. From this, a method to examine a state of the destruction by the crash force in one of the evaluation of finishing materials is taken in, but I assume a collision thing each time, and it is the present conditions that I calculate weight and the fall height of the falling object from kinetic energy, and examine. In addition, judging from the transformation of finishing materials and a crack / a destruction state, there is the evaluation. I arrest you by a unit of the load that it is easy to grasp how much crash forces such as real finishing materials or the furniture are, and this study is aimed at establishing shock docimasy in "the evaluation of finishing materials" and evaluation method.

In case of PVC floorcovering installed on high moisture content concrete substrate, it is point out of that there is a possibility of emission of newly generated VOC compounds. We already reported that hydrolysis of acrylic adhesives for tile-carpet use by alkaline moisture of concrete substrate brings about emission of 2-Ethylhexanol(2EHA) and Butanol. In this report, we investigated influence of alkaline moisture of concrete substrate on acrylic adhesives other than reported last year. As a result, the adhesive, which emitted a grate deal of 2EHA and Butanol on the test of the adhesive alone, also brought about high emission of them from PVC floorcovering construction undertaken with the adhesive. It is suggested that ester compounds in the adhesive are hydrolyzed by alkaline moisture and resulting alcohols are emitted to atmosphere through the floorcovering sheet.
