Video retrieval system for video archive center, which control and preserves large amount of video library, is studied. Considering necessary function for video retrieval system, hierarchical recording system has been tested. Hierarchical recording system is a conbination of hard disk drives(HDD) and tape streamer, and can access the top part of program at speed of HDD system and still be able to make system inexpensive with small recording media volume.

The performance evaluation of a PC coded PR4ML system recorded on two tracks using a spinstand is studied. It is compared with those of 16/17(0,6/6) coded E^2PR4ML system and a (1,7)RLL coded PR(1,2,1,-1,-2,-1)ML system. The results show that the proposed system exhibits the best BER performance among those systems.

MTR(maximum transition run)code is highly rated under the recent demand on higher density recording. In this paper, we introduce two-dimensional simplest MTR code with trellis function and investigate the effectiveness of the combination with TCPR4(trellis coded partial response 4) ML and this code, where the simplest means that all of more than three continuous level transition pattern are removed from the write-in waveform. The results show that bit error rate with this combination can hold the superiority over the combination with conventional PRML and this code.

Double layer perpendicular recording system has attracted special interest as the next generation recording technique. Although the waveform shape of read-back signal on this system is usually modeled by the integrated form of Lorentian pattern which has been widely adopted in the longitudinal recording system, the validity of this model hasn't been confirmed yet. In this paper, we investigate another model, so called Sigmoid pattern, which has recently been proposed, and compare with conventional model on the linearity to the variation of recording density. The results show that mean square error between experimental data and the calculated waveform by models can be reduced by the new model through wide range recording densities.

Guided Scrambling(GS) is used for the control of runlength within code blocks, such as d or k, as well as for DC component suppression. It is a coding technique which archive a code rate very close to the channel capacity. Typically technique uses a conventional operation or GF(Galois field) addition. In this paper, we propose a hardware configuration using ROM tables and also compare the ROM table sizes of both operations.

This paper describes the results of field transmission experiments for fixed and mobile reception using two SFN stations conducted by ARIB in February this year. In the case of optimum transmission timing of two SFN stations, preferable results were obtained. However, in the case of transmission timing for relay station, it was difficult to receive correctly within two SFN stations because delay time from main transmitter to another SFN transmitter become longer than guard interval. Location of relay station, transmission mode etc. must be taken carefully to implement SFN.

In each relay station, the signal was degraded due to a coupling from transmitting antenna to receiving antenna. If 64QAM-OFDM with coding rate of 7/8 is the case of relay, the amount of C/N degradation can be held down to 2.0dB or less with securing 15dB or more of return D/U.

The results show that the time interleaving of eight-cell length gets enough performance on mobile reception. Furthermore, the C/N to obtain no error after RS decoding is 3dB higher than the C/N to obtain BER=2×10^<-4> after Viterbi decoding.

The Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting(DTTB) will start in 2000 in Japan. In the DTTB, the orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex(OFDM) is used. The OFDM is brand new technology, then many kind of in-door tests and verification tests in field are carried out to realize DTTB, But the time schedule was very tight so some tests are omitted. To shorten the period of development, we have made a programmable signal processing system using CPU and Field Programmable Gate Array(FPGA) that controlled by Graphical Use Interface(GUI). In this paper the outline of the programmable signal processing system is mentioned, and some examples applied for the OFDM are also described.

Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting(DTTB) System is based on Orthogonal Frequency Multiplex(OFDM) method. As the DTTB system uses the various techniques, for example, the guard intervals, time or frequency intervals and so on, it is expected to have mobile reception capability. However, in the environments which have serious frequency selective fading or in the low signal level areas, the reception characteristics will be degraded. In this paper, we discuss about the mobile reception characteristics of the OFDM signals by using diversity reception technique.
