For digital television transmission, a scheme to automatically monitor video quality is awaited. We propose a method to estimate SNR via feature extraction. It applies spread-spectrum and WHT to video on the transmitter and the receiver sides, collects selected coefficients through slow links, and estimates SNR with high accuracy.

The frequency band from 21.4GHz 22GHz is assigned to the 3rd region including Japan and will be available for broadcasting satellite services from the year 2007. This band has a transmission characteristic that transmitted signal is severely degradated by rain attenuation. Therefore, any countermeasure should be take into account to solve this problem. In this article, we propose new technique called "long block-length Interleave" which can improve servise availabirity with low efficiency loss. Some thechniques for realizing long block-length Interleave are also discussed. And finally the prototype apparatus is introduced here.

The next-generation satellite broadcasting system using the 21GHz-band-waves is researched. However this band waves are greatly attenuated by rainfall, so we introduce the long block-length interleave transmission scheme to overcome the influence. In this report, to increase the service availability of 21GHz-band satellite broadcasting, we estimate the relation between error correction capability and period of the long block-length interleave on the basis of rain attenuation data observed from change of the BS receiving power.

A technique is proposed for calculating bit error rate from the envelope of an OFDM wave spectrum. Bit error rate calculated by this technique was found to be consistent with values measured in the field. This technique determines bit error rate without having to use a pseudo-noise (PN) signal and also enable multipath effects to be quantitatively understood.

The relationship between the concentration of spacer particles dispersed in the liquid crystal device and the intensity of light scattered by the device was examined in detail using a Schlieren optical system. The scattered light intensity was decreased with proportion to the spacer concentration. It was also found that the alignment disorder of liquid crystal molecules around the spacers causes considerable light scattering. The flare effect appeared in video images was reduced according to the decrease of light scattering.

We propose a new electron emission type infrared light image sensor, which is used a principle of a field emission from a PZT thin plate. On this sensor as shown in Fig. 1, a PZT ceramic plate act field emitter and the Al is an anode electrode. The PZT plate was irradiated by infrared light in a vacuum chamber. From the experiment, anode current was lineally proportional to the incident infrared light power, and the principle of this sensor was confirmed. Using this principle, we fabricated prototype infrared imager. The PZT photocathode, a multichannel plate and a fluorescent substrate constructed this imager. An infrared light source was taken by this imager, and the picture is shown in Fig.5.
