ABSTRACT: The coastal ecosystems have been exposed to environmental changes caused by human activities. It is required to establish a society in which conservation of nature and utilization of ecosystem services are considered under human-nature harmony for sustainable use of the ecosystem services. In this study, questionnaire surveys were conducted in order to examine intensity of interests of people in ecosystem services and conservation activity for marine ecosystems around Sekisei-lagoon. The stakeholders with less interest in the provisioning services showed low scores for the interests in marine ecosystems. All stakeholders commonly showed low satisfaction levels for the conservation activities. We concluded that when marine ecosystem conservations are discussed, appropriate information about lagoon ecosystems should be provided with due attentions to the differences in the interests in marine ecosystems and services among stakeholders.

ABSTRACT : At the Okinawa International maritime exposition in 1975, “Emerald beach” was developed as an artificial beach for the first time in Japan. After that, artificial beaches have been developed by hotel developments, Comprehensive Resort Areas Development Law, the revised Seacoast Law, etc. In the suburbs, artificial beaches of a beach-park type have been developed in the front of reclaimed lands, and it is used by people. In Okinawa, the beach is called “BEACH”, and there are also ways to use it differently from the Japanese mainland. In this study, I verify the condition of beach maintenance, the installation facility, the utility form and the management method for artificial beaches in the main island of Okinawa.
