ABSTRACT:Sources of marine litter on the Japanese and Korean coasts were compared by making use of an indicator item. The disposable lighter was chosen as an indicator, because the discharge area and location can be distinguished by characters printed on the surface of tank. The collected sites were 105 beaches on the Japanese coasts of East Asia Sea and Sea of Japan, and 3 beaches on the southern coast of Korean Peninsula. The number of lighters collected for two years were 6,880. The lighters that flowed out from China and Korea were recognized at the west coast of Tsugaru (Aomori prefecture) and the coast of Rumoi (northwest Hokkaido). Japanese and Korean coasts were affected by marine litter from China, but influence of outflow from the own country was strongest in the both coasts. It was suggested by this method that it is possible to monitor the source of outflow, the distribution of influence area and the annual change of marine litter on the coast of both countries.

ABSTRACT:This paper describes results of field surveys and analyses for coastal damages, occurred in Muroto city, due to the Typhoon 0423 (TOKAGE). In Muroto city, concrete parapets of a seawall were broken by a large run-up wave and plunged into the houses, resulting in three persons・death. In this study, wave prediction system was constructed to estimate typhoon-generated waves. Concerning with wave characteristics in front of the damaged seawall, wave run-up and overtopping were analyzed. In particular, analytical results of run-up agreed well with the witness information by residents.

ABSTRACT:The necessity of mODal shift has been emphasized to solve the various problems caused by trucktransportation such as air pollution and future lack of workers by declining birthrate. It is said that ferry lines can play aprincipal role in mODal shift policy on account of their easy intermODal transportation services. However, ferry lines in theSeto Inland Sea have been put in very difficult situation lately because of opening the Honshu-Shikoku ConnectionBridges and arguments about reduction in toll of the expressways and the Honshu-Shikoku Connection Bridges.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze a mODal shift by using ferry lines of the cargos which is transported bytrucks between Shikoku and other regions. From this result, it is indicated that lot-size is an important route choice factorto truck transportation cargo and making lot-size larger promotes mODal shift by using ferry lines.

ABSTRACT : This research deals with spatial influence over the fisheries off Boso peninsula, marine environment and the location of fishing ports. The purpose of this study is to get fundamental data to revive the promising creative fishing banks and seized on systematically fisheries by the standpoint of general situation. In the first place, make clear about characteristics of fisheries by concretely statistical information and estimate spatial influence of fishing ports locating by the numerical value. As a result, many fishing ports near fisheries are valid for landings and classifications, but some have to be improved on.
