Ruptured aortic aneurysms continue to be a challenge due to high rate of operative mortality and a poor prognosis even when surgical intervention is possible. Early detection is highly significant, as evidenced by the reduction in aneurysm-related mortality and cost-effectiveness of screening. In particular, abdominal ultrasonography is extremely useful for aortic screening because of its accuracy, noninvasiveness, lack of radiation exposure, and cost-effectiveness.
