Haruko Saito. User Education: A Case Report, Pharm. Libr. Bull. 40 (1) 52-59, 1995. The Library of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Hokkaido University, began providing user instruction in 1992 because (1) the materials are in several locations, (2) new computerization, and (3) improper user behavior. This study describes the present condition of user education at our library compared with the 22 libraries which replied to the survey previously done for this report, and also presents the analysis and the tasks. Many libraries responded that they could not provide sufficient hours and details for user instruction, even though they recognized its importance. In conclusion, this report recommends that the JPLA should provide the necessary guidelines for user education and a standard manual for library staff.
