In 2015, the number of foreign tourist visiting Japan has reached to 19.7 million which is the increase of 47
percent compared to the previous year. Then, the travel balance was a surplus of more than 1 trillion yen for
the first time in 53 years. The importance of realizing a tourism-oriented nation for the sustainable growth of
Japan’s economy in this century has been recognized. The domestic consumption amount is increasing in
accordance with the expansion of inbound tourism that brings a large economic ripple effect.
A space travel is starting soon by the sub-orbital flight. In the future to promote the space travel as the
staple measures of inbound tourism becomes the traction force of the Japanese economy. The space industry
having high advanced technology spreads to every field around its related industries and will contribute to the
revitalization of the Japanese economy. Exactly it is possible to realize a tourism-oriented nation with a science
and technology-oriented nation through a space tourism
Three big-budget hotel (Japanese-English “business hotel”) chain companies have been growing rapidly for
the past twenty years: the Toyoko-inn, Route-inn Japan and APA Hotel. They are unlisted companies and their
financial reports are not disclosed. I know that they are the most successful hotel companies through research
on their sales, profit and profitability. I have also interviewed CEOs of the companies and analyzed their
management. I found some success factors, including common points of competitive strategy and core
competence. Their entrepreneurial spirit is the source of the companies’ competitiveness.
