The aim of this paper is to examine the practical meaning and the nature of university tourism education. In this examination, the social background of tourism research and education as seen recently in the world is considered. Through this consideration, contemporary issues of tourism research and education can be clarified and then the nature of university tourism education can be brought into relief. Sustainable development of tourism is the trend of the times, and Tourismus als Beruf is the demand of the times. Training for “tourism professionals” to support the development of tourism is the most urgent task of tourism education. This paper regards the nature of university tourism education as education for “tourism professionals”. An important issue of university tourism education is to enhance the “tourism profession”, based on results of tourism research.

The aim of this paper is to clarify the evolutionary conditions for green-tourism based on the analysis of the activities and characteristics of the present stage of farmhouse accommodation in rural Hiroshima region. The farmhouse accommodation was compared with the non-farm house accommodation. However, I could not find any major features difterenciating farmhouse accommodation from the non-farm counterpart except for the capacity because the farmhouse accommodation was in a stable low equilibrium status operating part-time for skiers. This makes it difficult for them to proceed to a new satge at once. Thus I presented two types of green-tourism operator models, one is for the full-time operator such as with new entrants and the other is for part-time operator depending on the man-power and local available resources.

The purpose of this research is to accumulate the tourism ralated-information and their case-studies. In the long run data-base system will be established on the internet for both of academic and commercial uses. Our observations, as a result of our reseach, are three folded; By using the Internet, 1. Adverse feasibility (cost-to-benefit) 2. Poor reliability in terms of both usefulness and accuracy of infermation 3. Unpredictability of stable stream of information volume 4. Technical communication gaps The Internet is, characterisitically, linked and networked with world-wide, uncountable information sources. It is, therefore, necessary to set a stage of interacative information exchange by maximizing its characteristics. It is easily anticipated that the new age will be coming soon when tourism information is distributed through personal media rather than through massmedia as it is today. It will be only possible by public supports such as infrastructure of information, communication services or cost-free access services.

Long ago was an announcement that people no younger than 65 years old will account for over a quarter of Japan's population in 2020. Recent trend of aged people increase due to demographic al change and more social involvement by handicapped people seems to demand us to expand facilities easy to use for them. Mainly in public and urban facilities, we see a nationwide progress both in planning kind city for the handicapped and the old and constructing facilities easy to use for them. As the core of service industry, transportation and accommodation service sectors give priority in making their facilities meet laws and policies related to normalization. What is needed is, however, not restricted to hardware field but based on features of respective service sectors, enriching welfare policies, along with urgent need of enriching software field, especially human services, and our effort of having these sectors backed with more welfare-oriented viewpoint.

The purpose of this paper is to clear a way of improve tourist reports: Hokkaido and Sapporo, by their typical behaviour and characteristics of the sights. Famous place in tourist resorts consist of symbolic figure; structure, statue, for example, and the sky as a background. The findings are reported below. 1) Symbolic points in the tourist resorts have the open expanse its surroundings. 2) In urban tourist resorts, it is necessary to regulate development. 3) It is found that relation among three factors: the symbolic figure and the sky as a background and typical behaviour of tourists. 4) To improve tourist resorts, it is to be desired that all the relation the remark mentioned above should integrate into a local plan.

The hypothetical theory of management in tourism is one of the most important elements that compose this paper. The comprehensible definitions of tourism, hospitality, hospitality management must be improved. The cycle process of hospitality management means a practical approach for managing inter-creative tourism industry. Reciprocal fusion between theory and practice beneath the tourism may give us a new aspect of management theories. Contemplating and approaching to the hospitality management will be able to preserve the bright side of tourism development and create the social value.
