Toyota Tsusho Corporation participate in upstream gas business, under a strategy of building a solid gas value chain revenue base, and entering to LNG business. We have acquired two Coal Bed Methane projects in Australia (ATP651 in Queensland state, 2009) and Canada (Wheatland Area in Alberta state, 2012). ATP651 commenced gas supply in 2015 to the QCLNG Project which the LNG will be exported to countries including Japan.

Methane hydrate in offshore Japan is expected to be a valuable domestic resource, and the R & D project toward its commercial development has been in progress under the Ministry of Economy Trade and
Industry (METI). In the first offshore production test conducted in the waters off the coasts of Atusmi and Shima peninsulas in March 2013, we succeeded in about six-day continuous gas production at an average rate of 20,000 m³ /d. The next offshore production test is planned in 2017 for the evaluation of technology
for preventing sand production and the data acquisition and analysis of longer gas production performance. This speech presents technology perspective toward the realization of commercial methane hydrate development including future offshore test plans.

In the present study, the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds under mild condition was investigated by use of the layered niobium oxide as a photocatalyst. For example, the reaction of 2-aminobenzylamine with benzaldehyde in the presence of layered niobium oxide as a photocatalyst under visible light irradiation produced the corresponding quinazoline derivatives in the yield of 81 %. Furthermore, we examined the scope of substrates and evaluated the recyclability of layered niobium oxide catalyst.

 Molecular structural distribution of asphaltene is an important information to overcome troubles caused by asphaltene fraction.  The estimation method on the input data for the molecular structural analysis of asphaltene was developed using asphaltene fractions separated by a preparative GPC. The input data at a certain molecular weight was estimated using only an input data of whole asphaltene. The structural distribution on molecular weight can be estimated using those estimated input data.

Catalysts for catalytic cracking generally consist of microporous zeolite and mesoporous matrix. The preparation of silica-aluminas with very large mesopores by the gel skeletal reinforcement technique and their reactivity as a matrix in catalytic cracking when they were combined with microporous zeolite, resulting in hierarchical structure.  Further, the derived catalysts were evaluated by a Curie point pyrolyzer, as a new evaluation technique, in order to examine activity and products selectivity.  The cracking conversion of VGO was improved due to the increase in diffusion rate of raw materials with increasing pore size for both β and Y zeolite containing catalysts.  In contrast to the reaction of AR, no remarkable dependence was observed between conversion and pore size, resulting from small changes in diffusion depending on pore size presumably because AR contained large amounts of heavy fractions with higher boiling point than 500^oC. More than 70% gasoline selectivity from both VGO and AR was obtained by Y zeolite containing catalysts contrasted to β zeolite containing catalysts which was about 60% from VGO and 50% from AR, owing to Y zeolite itself contained larger cage inside the micropores than β zeolite.

The rates of the reaction of C3 to C8 linear and C4 and C5 monomethyl-branched alkanes catalysed by various zeolites (FAU, *BEA, MFI and MOR) were analysed. The pre-exponential factor, normalized by the number of Brønsted acid sites, showed a compensatory change in the activation energy. The lower activation energy gave a lower pre-exponential factor, indicating the compensation effect between the activation energy and entropy. The relationship between the pre-exponential factor and the activation energy was common in the reaction of butane, pentane, hexane, octane and 2-methylbutane over various catalysts, while propane and 2-methylpropane had pre-exponential factors lower than those observed in the reactions of other alkanes.
