Gas mixture of D₂O(g) and H₂(g) was applied to obtain D₂(g) in D₂O(g)+H₂(g)→H₂O(g)+D₂ system using reduced MoO₃/SiO₂ catalyst. When the gas mixture was contacted onto the MoOx/SiO₂ catalyst, HD was dominantly observed in the first stage of the reaction. Further contacting the gas mixture onto the catalyst, concentration of D₂ was graduarly increased. Finally deuterim concentration (D%) was reached around 90%. Thus D₂, one of useful stable isotopes, was readily obtained by exchange reaction of H₂ and D₂O(g).

The development of efficient heterogeneous catalysts to release hydrogen from hydrogen storage materials is an important challenge for the next hydrogen economy. In this study, a highly dispersed monometallic Ru nanoparticles with a mean diameter of 1.7 nm can be successfully synthesized on TiO₂ supports, which was effective for the hydrogen production from ammonia-borane. The catalytic activity can be significantly enhanced by the alloying with Ni atoms, giving a remarkably high total turnover number (TTO) of approximately 153,000 over 8 h with an excellent turnover number frequency (TOF) of 900 min^-1.

JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corporation has developed the hydrogen storage & transport system using liquid organic hydrides. For realizing this technology, MCH dehydrogenation catalysts having high activity and high selectivity is needed. In our study, Ti addition promoted activity and inhibited demethylation of formed toluene by comparison with commercial Pt catalysts. We will report the effect of Ti addition and the results of characterization of Pt/Ti catalysts.

It has been well known that the NOx emission is a serious concern to the environment which is responsible for the acid rain and urban smog. Ba and NiO modified Y₂O₃ catalyst showed a high activity on NO decomposition reaction, however the reaction temperature for this catalyst is too high for practical application (>600°C). Based on these results, a new Pd-NiO/ (Y_0.99Ba_0.01)₂ O₃ catalyst system for NOx selective reduction with C₃H₆ is studied. In this study, reaction mechanism on this catalyst was studied by using in-situ FT-IR and it became clear that HCN is an important intermediate.

Photocatalytic NO_x oxidation and storage on photocatalysts were investigated with the aim of an efficient NO_x abatement at low temperature. TiO₂ photocatalyst exhibited a sufficient NOx storage capacity under UV light irradiation even at room temperature, and the modification of Ba on TiO₂ as a NO_x trapping agent greatly enhanced the activity. Several spectroscopic methods revealed that dispersed Ba species on TiO₂ were effective for NO_xstorage.

Catalytic oxidative coupling of methane using carbon dioxide in an electric field was conducted at lower temperature, 423 K. As a result, the highest OCM activity, C2 yield of 7.4 %, was obtained even at 348 K, that value was higher than those of other earlier reports. Methane activation was promoted by increasing the imposed current and/or imposed power. To show the same catalytic activity by heating the catalyst, very high temperature was required, even at 1323 K in the conventional catalytic reaction. In addition, the incorporation of Ca atoms in the LaAlO3 structure, stabilizing Ca atoms, was important for the formation of C2 hydrocarbons.

Influence of oxygen redox property and anchoring behavior on Co supported catalyst during toluene steam reforming reaction

Activity tests and some characterizations were conducted on Co supported catalyst during and after toluene steam reforming. FE-TEM measurements and XPS measurements revealed that an anchoring behavior between Co metals and a support oxygen was confirmed only when La ion and lattice defection coexist in/on the support oxygen. Also, a redox property of support is significant for activating steam and toluene according to SSITKA (Steady State Isotopic Transient Kinetic Analysis) and XPS measurements. Compatibility of the anchoring behavior and the redox property enabled 10wt%Co/La_0.7Sr_0.3AlO_2.85 to indicate highest activity during toluene steam reforming.
