A 26-year old female who had taken a contraceptive pill, containing norgestrel and ethinylestradiol, for about five years noticed baldness on occipital region two months after she had stopped it. The administration of glycyron and cepharanthine and the application of carpronium chloride ointment failed to improve her alopecia. The serum estrogen level was normal, and the drug lymphocyte stimulation test for that contraceptive pill was positive. The administration of another pill, levonorgestrel and ethinylestradiol, which was prescribed in another clinic, deteriorated her alopecia. Discontinuing the pill ameliorated her alopecia. It is well known that the alopecia due to oral contraceptives is associated with a decrease of the serum estrogen level. However, in this case, allergic mechanism due to contraceptive pill rather than the serum estrogen level was supposed to induce alopecia.

We would like to submit 4 reported cases of pseudomonas aeruginosa folliculitis. Pruritic red papules and pustules developed on the midsection, buttocks and thighs. Cultured bacteria from the pustule revealed P. aeruginosa. Duration of eruption was from one to six weeks.
Two patients used a Japanese circulated bath at their home. The water is kept warm and remains in the tub all day.
We hypothesize that pseudomonas aeruginosa folliculitis might be caused by using a circulated bath.

We report two cases of cutaneous infection with Mycobacterium chelonae (M. chelonae). One case is an 83-year-old woman with infiltrated erythema on the left forearm developed after minor trauma. Another case is a 67-year-old woman with subcutaneous nodules on the left thigh, which developed at the injection site of insulin for diabetes. In both cases, acid fast bacillus was cultured from a clinical sample and it was proved to be M. chelonae by DNA-DNA hyblidization technique. The former case needed 5 months of oral ofloxacin and 4 months of oral clarithromycin for complete remission. The latter case had been taken surgical excision.

We report a case of syphilis secundaria. The patient was a 23-year-old male. He had psoriasis syphilitica on the palms and soles, roseola syphilitica on his body, and condylomata lata on genital areas. Serological tests for syphilis showed positive results. The oral administration of ABPC 1500 mg/day revealed a therapeutic effect. The lesion subsided nearly in 8 weeks. Skin Research, 1: 414-417, 2002

Hinokitiol is well known to have antibacterial effect. We applied HINOKI AP Cream that contained hinokitiol together with glycyrretin and moistureizers to 20 patients with atopic dermatitis to evaluate its safety and utility. Great improvement in dryness was observed in almost all the patients. To examine the effect of hinokitiol, HINOKI AP Cream and its vehicle were applied to the right and left flxor forearms of 11 cases, respectively. Before and after 2-week applications, TEWL and conductance were measured on the skin of each forearm, and the number of colonies of Staphylococcus aureus isolated from each skin surface were counted. TEWL and conductance improved after applications in both sides, whereas the reduction of the number of Staphylococcus aureus was more prominent in the HINOKI AP Cream side. No clinical adverse effect was observed.
These results indicate that HINOKI AP Cream is a useful and safe skin care product for the patients with atopic dermatitis, in which Staphylococcus aureus could be one of the worsening factors.
