Recently, the stent has been employed for the treatment of vascular disease. In the present paper, the effect of the metal stent on the flow structure in the globate aneurysm has been visualized by PIV
in vitro. The flow model is simplified by the globate cerebral aneurysm model at the side wall. The Reynolds number and the non-dimensional frequency correspond to the range of human cerebral artery flow parameter. As a major assessment variable for stent characteristics, the wall shear stress is examined for both stented and nonstented models. Consequently, the flow velocity and the wall shear stress inside the aneurysm with stent are much smaller than those without stent. Therefore, the flow characteristics quantitatively indicate to suppress the magnitude of wall shear stress with stent compared with that without stent. This would suggest that the stent possesses the possibility of occlusion of aneurysm due to the appearance and the development of thrombosis.
