The purpose of this study is to understand the behavior of water and insoluble liquid, silicone oil, when these fluids are mixed by non-stationary stirring. Experiments and numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the mixing behavior, velocity field, shear rate, stirring power, and thermal behavior of the non-stationary stirring. As a result of the up and down reciprocating stirring experiment, it was found that the shorter the reciprocating distance or the larger the stirring speed, the more the mixing of water and silicone oil was accelerated in the 5th reciprocating motion. The results of the forward and reverse alternating rotation stirring experiments shows that the water and silicone oil are mixed in a wider range as the rotation speed increases. In addition, the numerical simulation shows the relationship between the stirring conditions and the thermal behavior.
