Patient: A 57-year-old male patient complained of esthetic and masticatory dysfunction including gingival swelling and occlusal pain. He was diagnosed as severe periodontal disease caused by diabetes. Many of his teeth were extracted and then he was provided with a complete denture prosthesis, which improved esthetic and masticatory rehabilitation.

Discussion: The periodontal disease was treated thoroughly before extracting teeth, and a resin plate was provided for the patient to accommodate the denture. The immediate denture was provided after extracting teeth. The provision of an immediate denture base and occlusal adjustment while the mucous membrane improved was considered to lead to a satisfactory outcome in the final denture preparation.

Conclusion: Careful pre-treatment for this patient who had no experience with dentures yielded a satisfactory outcome, improved the patient’s chief complaint and resulted in successful treatment.

Patient: A 63-year-old woman visited the clinic complaining of an esthetic disturbance involving the maxillary anterior teeth and a masticatory disturbance caused by distal extension missing in the left mandibular region. She was also dissatisfied with the conspicuous appearance of her denture clasp. Both chief complaints were resolved using fixed partial dentures and attachment dentures.

Discussion: Among various methods of prosthetic treatment for the mandibular molar region, dental prostheses that were specifically designed to resolve the patient’s chief complaints were successfully fabricated and delivered to the patient.

Conclusion: An esthetic disturbance involving the maxillary anterior teeth and an unstable intercuspal position were improved by fixed partial dentures prepared with porcelain-fused-to-metal and an attachment denture.

Case summary: A 74-year-old female presented with the chief complaints of lack of maxillary denture retention and poor esthetic appearance in the anterior region. She had a severe vomiting reflex and facial characteristics displayed a distinct contour in the anterior region along with protruding lips. The existing prosthesis had been modified as a treatment denture in order to establish an appropriate denture margin. A new roofless denture using magnetic attachments was fabricated to improve retention.

Discussion: Because the patient had a severe vomiting reflex, an appropriate length of denture margin was established by modifying the present prosthesis before fabricating the new prosthesis. In addition, it is thought that esthetic satisfaction was achieved by deciding the arrangement position of the anterior teeth part at the chairside.

Conclusion: In this case, poor retention and esthetic appearance were improved by using magnetic attachments and establishing an appropriate denture margin.

Patient: The patient was a 63-year-old female. Her chief complaint was chewing deficiency due to missing mandibular molars with extrusion of the opposing molar regions. The bilateral free-end partially edentulous mandible was occlusally reconstructed by implant fixed prosthetic treatment for the edentulism and crown restorations for the opposing teeth.

Discussion: The fixed prosthetic treatment enhanced masticatory function. Three years and 6 months after delivery of the prosthesis, the implants and remaining teeth were maintained by a regular maintenance program. In addition, clinical performance was assisted based on occlusal examination, diagnosis, and potentially by the low risk factor for implant failure of the patient.

Conclusion: The implant fixed prosthetic treatment of providing occlusal support without damaging the implants and the opposing teeth, as well as maintenance, resulted in a good course for 3 years and 6 months after installation of the prosthesis.

Outline of the case: The patient was a 71-year-old woman whose chief complaint was redness and itching on her face and fingers. These symptoms were not alleviated even after visiting a dermatologist. Until now, the dental approach used to treat metal allergies has been identification of the allergen and complete removal of all metal restorations including the allergen. In this case, we removed metal restorations in stages, replaced them with dental prostheses, and evaluated the improvement of symptoms.

Discussion: The relief of oral lesions due to the decreased absorption of metal allergen was considered to be one of the reasons for the improvement of symptoms. It was thus found that the main cause of allergic symptoms in this case was dental metal allergy.

Conclusion: It was demonstrated that the staged removal of dental metal with a follow-up of the case is effective for treating allergic symptoms in patients sensitized to dental metal.

Patient: A 57-year-old woman visited our clinic with the chief complaint of pain in the mandibular right canine. She experienced occlusal destruction (disintegration) with severe full-mouth periodontal disease. Centering on periodontal treatment, a new occlusal support was established using dental implants placed for dentitions with eccentrically-located residual teeth and the unstable mandibular position was properly positioned using the Gothic arch tracing method followed by fabrication of the final prosthesis.

Discussion: In the postoperative process, root caries were observed, but good dentitions were maintained by taking advantage of the removable prosthesis (telescopic system with auro galvano crown) during follow-up.

Conclusions: These results suggested that for dentitions with eccentrically-located residual teeth, a telescopic denture modified by placing a few dental implants would be an effective prosthesis method for maintenance and prognostic correspondence.
