The Kanesunose Bank is situated near the entrance of Suruga Bay, about 34km south by east of Onmae-zaki, and is separated from the continental shelf by a deep more than 300m in depth., It has a flat top and steep flanks, with the topo-graphical feature like that of a mesa., From a survery of the bottom deposits of the bank, the following features were recognized., 1., The bed-rocks of the bank are fossiliferous soft sandstone and shale hardly distinguishable from those of Sagara Tertiary(Neogene), and are of the same type as those of other banks in Su-ruga Bay, such as Senoumi., 2., Overlying the bed-rocks is a thick gravel bed, in which are found boulders weighing as much as 5kgr., The gravels are exposed on t-he sea bottom., 3., The gravel bed contains the same material as the Pleistocene beds developed on Onmae-zaki; but contains no pebbles derived from the Tertiary complex of Izu Peninsula., The gravels are well water-worn and covered with sessi-l organisms., 4., The marine organisms dredged from the bank, although few in num-ber, consist of 12 species of Bivalvia, 3 of Gastropoda, 2 of Chlorophyceae, 5 of Rhodophyceae, 2 of Phaeophyceae, several of calcareous Algae, besides, Cirrip-edia, Spongiae and Bryozoa., The writer thinks that the present bank, like Senou-mi bank, is recently submerged land block.,
