1., Stratigraphy of the Cretaceous Deposits., In the Hei-chong-tzu basin of Cretaceous rocks, Chao-yang prefecture, Chin-cheu Province (approximately N., lat., 42°10', E., long., 121°), which is situated at some 40 km north of the Pei-piao coal-basin, the Cretaceous deposits rest unconformably on strongly folded gneisses and have received only moderate disturbance by post-Cretaceous folding, with dips varying from 5-20° either to SE or to NW., The observed rock succession is as follows ; 2., Pei-piao group of pyroclastic rocks ···unconformity···1., Hei-chong-tzu grop of clastic sediments ···unconformity ···Folded gneiss system The two groups can easily be distinguished from each other by their lithological and palaeontological peculiarities., The Pei-piao group is an accumulation in enormous thickness of pyroclastic material and lava flows-andestic and basaltic lavas, their agglomerates, tuffs, tuffaceous sandstone, conglomerates, compact cross-beded sandstone and shale, almost all of reddish color., On the other hand, the Hei-chong-tzu groups consists of green sandstone, sandy shale, shale, oil shale and heavy bedded gray conglomerate as well as coal seams ; to this characteristic is the Lycoptera-Estheria fauna., The Hei-chong-tzu group is equivalent to the Chieu-fu-tang series of Dr., R., ENDO in Jehol, the Ta-ra-tzu series of TAKEYAMA and ASANO in Chien-tao province, north eastern Manchuria and the Liayang formation of T'AN in Shantung ; while the Pei-piao group may correspond to the Ching-shan series of T'AN in Shantung., 11., New Occurrences of Permo-Carboniferous Deposits., The coal-bearing series of the following three places are regarded to be Permo-Carboni-ferous in age on fossil plants, though it was sometimes assigned to the Mesozoic., a., Yang-shu-ko, Chao-yang prefecture, Chin-cheu province, located at about 17 km southwest of Pei-piao coal basin., Sphenophyllum cf., oblongifolium (G., et K., ), Sphenopteris sp., Calamites sp., Cordiates sp., etc., b., Pei-shan, located at 15 km west of Yang-shu-ko., Calamites suckowi BRONGN., Sphenophyllum oblongifolium, (G., et K., ), Annularia orientalis KAWASAKI., c., Pao-kuo-tzu, Hsin-Huen prefecture, Jehol province, lacated some 80 km north of the Pei-piao coal basin., A series of conglomerate, sandstone, and shale with fire clay and coal seems in the upper part and five lenticular limestones in the lower part ; this series directly rests on the erosion surface of Archaean gneisses, without intervention, of Ordovician deposits., Fossils are rare, only one species of each of coral, and bryozoa and crinoid stems were found in the limestones., Regarded to be Permo-Carboniferous in age on the similarity in lithic character and stratigraphical succession with the Permo-Carboniferous of the other fields.,
