    The writer studied the Mitsuishi "Roseki" deposit, which is located at 50km east of Okayama City and is one of the largest of such deposits in Japan., The principal purpose of the present paper are as follows; 1., Determination of the component minerals of the Roseki, by various mineralogical methods., 2., Consideration on the applicability of these methods, judged from the results obtained., 3., Explanation of the outline of the ore bodies from the geological point of view., 4., Contribution to the knowledge of the genesis of the deposit.,

    Owing to the kindness of Mr., Y., TAI, the writer had an opportunity to examine some fossil foraminifera collected from the so-called lower Miocene Furue formation, the middle part of the Shinzi group in the vicinity of Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture., Through the study of the specimens belonging to the genus Cyclammina, it was clarified that the fauna of teh Furue formation contains abundant Cyclammina japonica ASANO plus C., pusilla BRADY, but a few C., incisa (STACHE) plus C., orbicularis BRADY., Hitherto the abundant occurrence of Cyclammina japonica ASANO and C., pusilla BRADY in the Miocene of Japan has been only known in Akita Pref., and Niigata Pref., both of which are considered to have been affected by the colder Kurile current (or OYASHIO-current)., Therefore it seems resonable to conclude that the Furue formation must have also deposited under the influence of the colder Kurile current; the conclusion being in harmony with that from the study of mollusca by Y., OTUKA (1937) and Y., TAI(1951).,

    The late Palaeozoic and early Mesozoic sediments in northern China (Shantung Supergroup) represent one simple cycle of sedimentation; namely, the marine facies of lower part transit into terrestrial or continental ones of middle and upper parts., There are, however, some unconformities (or disconformities), which indicate crustal movements of epeirogenic nature, during the deposition of the Shantung Supergroup., These movements may be correlated with the Huainan, Kunming, Tungwu, Suwan and Huaiyang movements studied by chinese geologist in Yantz region and southern China., But, besides, another important movement which the author names as the "Chiaotsuo movement", should be considered in northern China., It took place at the close of lower Permian (Sakmarian) and caused a regression of the Permian sea., No marine sediments are found thereafter.,
