Two new staphylinid species of the subgenus Minyphilydrodes of the genus Philydrodes are described under the names P. (M.) yujii and P. (M.) kumosoensis. They were obtained from streamside in deciduous broadleaved forest on Mt. Kumoso-yama of Tokushima Prefecture in eastern Shikoku, Japan.

Pseudodera xanthospila BALY, 1861 is redescribed and its morphological variations are discussed based on comparison among specimens collected in China, Japan, and Taiwan. Specimens from Taiwanese populations exhibit sexual dimorphism in antennae and first tarsomeres, as well as variations in the morphology of female genitalia. An internal medial ridge on the last abdominal ventrite in male and yellowish brown spots on the elytra are variable among populations.

A second Oriental species of the genus Achaetothorax HEDICKE is described from Thailand, and A. malayensis PAPP et NORRBOM is recorded from Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh for the first time, and its male is redescribed for the comparison with the new species. The distributional records of Metaborborus orientalis PAPP, M. saliens (DUDA) and M. trichosus NORRBOM et KIM are presented including new localities. Metaborborus schumanni (PAPP) is synonymized with M. saliens (DUDA).

Ceutorhynchus nitidulus (FAUST) is recorded for the first time from Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu, Japan. In addition to its distributional records, a diagnosis of C. nitidulus is provided to facilitate the identification of this species. The adults of this species have been captured on Cardamine species (Brassicaceae) on many occasions in Japan, Korea, and East Russia.

Fintona tertia MOMOI, 1970, originally described from Amamioshima Isl., Ryukyu, is transferred from Cryptopimpla to Amphirhachis. A Central Asian species, Amphirhachis quadripunctata KUSLITSKIY, 1995, is synonymized with A. tertia. The male of A. tertia collected in Tsushima Isl. (new record), is described as the first representative of male for the genus.

A revisional study of tenebrionid beetles of the genus Byrsax PASCOE from Japan is dealt with. Four new species and one new subspecies are described under the following names: Byrsax takakuwai sp. nov., B. lewisi sp. nov., B. nishinoi sp. nov., B. hiranoi sp. nov. and B. niponicus amamiensis subsp. nov. After examining the types of LEWIS, B. kimurai MIYATAKE, 1970 is regarded as a junior synonym of B. spiniceps LEWIS, 1894. Lectotypes are designated for Byrsax spiniceps LEWIS, 1894 and B. niponicus LEWIS, 1894. A key to all the species from Japan is provided.

Three new species of Polypedilum KIEFFER, 1912, from the Yaeyama Islands, the Ryukyus, Japan, are described and figured based on male adults. Two of the new species, Polypedilum nubilum sp. nov., and P. maculipennatum sp. nov., are assigned to the subgenus Polypedilum. One species, Polypedilum notabile sp. nov., is not assigned to any subgenus due to the unique structure of the superior volsella, and it may be justified to erect a new subgenus for it in future study.

Five new species of the macrocephalic Pterostichus belonging to the relatives of P. yoshidai are described from Shikoku: Pterostichus punctibasalis from Mt. Shirataki-yama, Tokushima; P. sculpturalis from Mt. Asahigamaru-yama, Tokushima; P. strigipennis from Mt Shiraga yama, Kochi; P. bisulcitarsis Mt. Kukuba yama, Kochi; P. subabacipennis from Kajigamori, Kochi. A new species complex is proposed on the basis of bisulcitarsis and abacipennis. The record of P. yoshidai in Koyadaira (YOSHIDA et. al., 2008) is emended as P. confusianus N. ITO, 2010.

Siphonatrophia cupressi is native to North and Central America and was introduced into Europe. Based on specimens collected from Juniperus chinensis 'Kaizuka' in southwestern Japan, we first record S. cupressi from Japan. It is likely that S. cupressi reproduce parthenogenetically even in winter in southwestern Japan. This exotic aphid could expand into other regions of Japan due to wide cultivation of J. chinensis.

Arge rufocincta GUSSAKOVSKIJ, 1935, and A. shinanensis TOGASHI, 1992, are synonymized with A. longicornis KUZNETZOV-UGAMSKIJ, 1927. Adults are redescribed, the host plants are recorded and the larvae are described for the first time, and the life history is briefly discussed based on rearings. Arge longicornis probably has one or two generations a year with polymodal adult emergence. The larvae are solitary leaf-feeders on Berberis (Berberidaceae). This is the first distribution record of A. longicornis from Korea.

Seven species belonging to the subgenus Ceratina, genus Ceratina, and occurring in Taiwan are described: C. fumipennigera, C. sauteri and C. unicolor, and four new species, C. yamanei, C. rukaina, C. monstrata and C. seikii. These species are classified into five species groups, and their relationships to other species occurring in the Oriental Region are discussed. Keys are given for distinguishing among the species groups and the species.

Fourteen Myrmica species are recorded from Mongolia. Their worker diagnoses and a key to the species are presented. All the localities previously known and confirmed in the present study for these species are listed, and plotted on maps. No species was found from semi-desert and desert areas. Among the species 64% (9 species) belong to the M. lobicornis group, agreeing with the general tendency seen for the entire Myrmica fauna of the Siberian-Mongolian Center sensu RADCHENKO and ELMES.
